A new requirement in the ASQ saga of you're sharing a room. Yes, that's right. Wear a mask 24 hours a day for 14 days straight, even while sleeping.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent changes to Thailand's Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) rules require individuals sharing a room to wear masks at all times, including while sleeping, for a period of 14 days. This new regulation has sparked discussions among expats and travelers, raising questions about enforcement and practicality, especially compared to the regulations in other countries.

This is a deja-vu harking back to the more intimate three-per-room accommodation scheme implemented at the beginning of COVID quarantining.

Unless I have gone into another zone, I believe it was reported that one Thai returnee had a most shockingly unfortunate lunge at an open window in his room ... and succeeded ...

BTW pack a ceramic mug, and take a kfs, and teaspoon, if you:re not keen on eating from plastic containers with your hands and drinking from tiny cardboard cups. 😭

Is this actually a government mandate issued for all ASQ's? Looks more like something that a particularly risk averse lawyer would draw up for individual hotel(s) wanting to cover their backsides.

In Singapore couples / families are allowed to be quarantined in the same room. I believe they only allow 2 per room. But no need to wear a mask.

They let you in Thailand too, but the charge is per person. This honestly seems like some BS the hotel wants signed because they're morons.

If I may speak succinctly and simply, South Korea has its shit together. Corruption and greed aren't the main players at the table, rather, problem solvers are. Thailand appears ruled by oligarchs - financial and military, perhaps even medical as well. This results in power grabs, and the refusal of the power groups to work together- most recently MFA and TAT. South Korea takes travelers rom 1 of the worst, if not worst, countries- USA and doesn't have a problem with them because of a 14 day quarantine, staffed largely by young military recruits. South Korea's economy is limping along, but is not devestated like Thailand, which is looking at 3-5 years to return to near normal, and rather than fix the problem, they spin out irrational plans that sputter and die- The Phuket fiasco, now the investment add-on to the elite visa, the STV program with its severe limitations. Hell, 6 months after closing the border they still haven't repatriated all the Thais..

Indeed, many Thais stranded abroad. They have a much bigger problem than tourists not being able to visit here or tourists in Thailand that have to go home.

i’m not sure what your point is. Are you blaming me because many Thais are still stranded abroad after 7-9 months And their government can’t get their act together to bring them back home?. And because I use a tourist visa dies not mean my home is not in Thailand.

Common sense? I live in a low-risk country, South Korea, but because I am American I can't use the STV.

the tourist that Thailand does can manage to find quarantine accommodation for ANY and ALL travelers that come to the country, but Thailand somehow has a limit of like 200 per week.

Common sense would be not to wear a mask while in a 29sqm room for 14 days straight with someone because it wouldn't make the slightest difference...

you got a point on that one. many things make no sense in 2020. Why wasn't there an public mask, temperature check + hand sanitizer effort in Europe, while Thailand did best in preventing covid on a global scale? We should appreciate that Thailand offers a way to come here through quarantine and not nitpicking some grammar issues in their rules. No one forces you to come here and its common sense for Thailand to protect their people ( something europe failed to do)
