TLDR : Answer Summary
Discord is utilized by a variety of users for different purposes. Some individuals engage with it for investment groups, while others express discomfort with its organization compared to platforms like Facebook. It is also noted for its use in educational settings, as some parents report their children using it for school. A user mentioned initially disliking Discord but grew fond of it for its multifaceted usability. Concerns about privacy and security were raised, with one user reluctant to provide personal identification information. Overall, while some find it useful, others prefer alternatives like Slack.

it’s a strange name for a platform. As discord means disagreement among people and in music lack of harmony. not a particularly positive name.

I used to hate it and never used it, until I realized how useful it was. Not I'm addicted to it and have my own server broken up into categories and constantly use it for notes to myself, etc. all in the same place I can chat with friends or keep up with other companies at the same time.

On occasion but not regularly. It wanted me to confirm that I'm over 18 at one point and I wasn't handing over ID details to the service.

I want to make a membership based group/platform for a couple projects I'm working on right now. Discord seems the easiest to paygate, but over all usability is rough. Have any alternative?

There are apparently ways to get paid by Discord but I'm not up on it and there's no paying alt I know of. It's not a company I regularly cover in my day job, except when they keep getting hacked or targeted by scammers.

I use it for some groups around investing, but truely not a fan. It's really hard to discuss things, it's more of a chat. Facebook in social group like this I think is superior. We can create different posts and then discuss them in a more organized way.
