Australia just extended their travel ban to September 17th. That means Australians are prohibited from leaving Australia, and foreigners cannot fly into Australia.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Australia has extended its travel ban, preventing Australians from leaving the country and foreigners from entering until September 17th. The situation has led to discussions on the implications for travel, particularly to Thailand, where some suggest a potential travel bubble might be explored. Comments reflect concerns over the ease of international travel given the ongoing pandemic, highlighting the complexity of reopening borders in a safe manner.

Lol. try 2021 March if we are lucky

There's money to be made for those who can devise a way to open and control the disease at the same time, let's hope some neighboring country does it soon to spur the others on.

Looks like the big tit-for-tat going on:

Travel will be restricted to countries that have controlled the virus. Australia and Thailand have the best.

Don't hold your breath for travel bubbles

''The Thai Cabinet on Tuesday approved domestic tourism stimulus measures but it has yet to consider the travel bubble scheme, said Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul''.

Oz's numbers are far, far better than those of many Western European countries (WE).

While WE is gradually opening up to international tourists, Oz continues banning international travel.

How is quarantining going in Oz?

Travel likely off the cards for Australians until 2021

Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham says it is likely that Australia's borders will remain all but closed until next year.

In the meantime, the Government is hoping to set up a travel bubble with New Zealand in the second half of 2020 and also wants to allow in some international university students.

"I hope that we can look eventually at some of those countries who have similar successes suppressing the spread of COVID-19 to Australia and New Zealand," Senator Birmingham said.

"But I do, sadly, think that in terms of open tourist-related travel in or out of Australia, that remains quite some distance off, just because of the practicalities of the volumes that are involved and the need for us to first and foremost keep putting health first."

He explained general travel was "more likely" to be on the agenda for 2021.

Unless you are a business traveller than , you just make up your own rules . Nothing health wise just business .
David **********
There is currently a travel ban but there's exemptions for business, family and other reasons.
Rob ******
@David *********
Yes love the exemptions for business , and no need to quarantine at hotel on return in your private jet , just home to the mansion is fine and no rapid test or anything .

we were told months ago in Western Australia that there would be no international travel until the end of 2020

I honestly don't understand this at all. People have been coming and going in and out of Australia since the lockdown began bringing the virus back to Australia with them. These have been families going on holidays while Australia's borders are supposed to be closed. I don't get it.
Dianne *****
@David ***********
I don't believe there have been any families going on holidays from Australia since late March. The travel ban has been in place since Australia locked down. There have been people who were stranded in countries all around the world who have been coming back to Australia, initially self quarantining before it was made mandatory to quarantine in supervised hotel quarantine
David ************
@Dianne ****
I am currently in Western Australia. Families have been coming back here from holidays whilst lockdown is supposedly on bringing back the virus with them and being quarantined in hotel accommodation on arrival. It's been reported on the news every time a family comes back.

its a new strain, its transformed as alot of diseases do, its going to be long ride on the covid19 bus im afraid.
Roger ********
@James *************
Just read something about that. Early days, to be sure.
Darren *******
@Roger *******
If it's a new strain then I really hope all travel stops so it can be contained and dealt with instead of it being spread worldwide like it has been so far. Short term pain is better than the even longer pain we will all have if there's a second wave.
Roy ***********
@Darren ******
I do not think it is possible to turn back the clock 100 years and people not being able to fly all over the world. If there are new strains of this disease, it is no longer short term pain but will take many years. If ever they can find a cure, or we will just have to live with it like the flu.
Darren *******
@Roy **********
of course you can stop people from flying, it's happening right now. By containing and isolating any new strains then you will also allow other countries to fly as the virus would've been effectively isolated and contained.

well countries of the world need to shut CHINA the fuck down now. I said this should’ve happened much earlier on the first outbreak. ‘Hindsight’ everyone told me. And now we all have that hindsight, shut China the fuck down now, this morning, and trace everyone who has left China in 14 days. Then trace everyone they’ve been in contact with. And so on. Put them all in hospitals, schools, warehouses, prisons, I don’t give a fuck.
Darren *******
@Dan *******
I think China has an inbound and outbound ban (I could be wrong on this) but yes I agree that China should be completely shut down and isolated right now. Same for US, Brazil, and pretty much all of Europe.
Dan ********
@Darren ******
and mean to say ‘the rest of the world’ should put a lockdown on China, not wait for them to do it themselves. Look back at some of press at the initial outbreak, late dec/early Jan. I found some online, and makes you think, why the fuck did we not ban Chinese (and visitors to) travelling ? If it turns out to be a more friendly virus, and it was an excessive thing to do, we can all recover from a 3-4 week ban on Chinese outward Travel.
Dan ********
@Darren ******
my point being, that this didn’t happen first wave, in Jan/Feb when it should’ve. And you could still fly into the UK in early April, without even a question asked, let alone a temperature check. Friends flew back from Thailand, wearing masks, after passing through 10-15 temperature checkpoints on the way, into Heathrow, and walked straight out. You could fly from Italy at the peak of the virus there. Spain, Iran, etc the same. In APRIL !! The whole world shut down by 28th March, yet 100,000 flew into UK without a check AFTER 1st APRIL, Wether UK citizens or not. I believe Thailand did so very well, as they very quickly scrutinised flights from Wuhan, and then the rest of China. The first known case outside China was CAUGHT, with her travel group at Bangkok airport. I don’t know about any more confirmed cases stopped at any airport controls. That would be good reading.
Roy ***********
@Darren ******
Not flying is happening right now, but I do not see people accepting it for a few years.

Many people accepted restrictions as they thought it would be for a few months. But all over the world you can see people getting tired of restrictions after only a few months.

The world already proved they can not contain this.
Darren *******
@Roy **********
it won't be for a few years. The no flying would be to/from infected countries so the virus is isolated and contained.
James **************
Expect more countries to follow
