Chiang Mai Immigration, Covid Extension:

Hey everyone, went to CM immigration for my 3rdCovid Extension this morning. Originally I entered with a visa exemption. Was a little concerned based on some of the posts by people (most of whom have never even been on the covid extensions, just rank people based on their visa status because they have nothing else in life other than being old) stating there’d additional documents required such as flight tickets, ext.

I’m happy to report there were no changes to the application process. Initially when I was going through the first phase of document checks the volunteer took my passport to an immigration officer to verify I was able to get an extension, after that no issues though. I arrived about 8am, got que number 5, office opened at 8:30, had my passport back at 9:08.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience obtaining a third Covid extension at Chiang Mai Immigration without any additional document requirements, indicating no proof of vaccination was necessary. Community comments provide clarity on the necessity of documents like embassy letters, the validity period of extensions, and the process for obtaining them, confirming that extensions start from the date of application and additional input from users about their experiences.

Can anyone confirm whether you need a letter from your embassy? I haven’t heard that before but it is on the immigration website?

do you just ask for covid extension and take documents. Didn’t know if I need a story for being unable to travel.

Jodie Anne the paper asks for a reason, just write unable to Travel due to covid entry restrictions or you're scared of covid.

Thanks for your update. Can I just double-check one thing, please; did you get the full 60 days stamped, or did you get an “under consideration”, meaning you have to return in 15 days? Thanks in advance, Lewis.

@Lewis **********
Under consideration stamp, have to go back in 14 days.

ok, thanks for coming back to me. Do you know whether you could go back earlier to get the remaining period, or does it have to be in 14 days exactly? E.g. if you were leaving CMX in a week, and couldn’t return in 14 days, would they give you the additional period then? Thanks again

I’ve never tried but doubt they’d give you your stamp if you went early. The underconsideration stamp serves no purpose other than to make your life more difficult.

Thanks for the info.

Btw, how soon I have to get my covid extension when my visa is till 5 of March? I'm just afraid that I'm too early to process and will ask me to come back again. (I'm a bit far from Phuket office)

Does covid extension starts from the date you apply for it or the date your previous extension expires? Coming 2 weeks in advance is still fine ?

Your first covid extension starts the day you apply. Subsequent extensions are added to your current expiration date.

And yes, extension times are the same as normal 30-45 days in advance depending on the office.
