TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights the requirements for visa exemption entry into Thailand, stating that travelers must present a return ticket within 30 days for visa-exempt arrivals or 60 days for tourist visa holders. Various comments provide suggestions for purchasing cheap onward tickets or modifying return flights to comply with immigration requirements. Additionally, there's mention of countries that have specific 90-day visa exemptions and a debate over whether the airline or immigration authorities bear responsibility for confirming travel compliance.

in 13 years of flying in and out on visa exempt, ive been asked by the airline to produce a return ticket exactly twice. both times i talked my way out of it (although i was prepared to get a cheap ticket online if i had to). immigration has never once asked to see one.

i guess it all depends on their mood 🤷🏻‍♀️

She should've just pulled out her phone and quickly booked a cheap flight from Thailand to anywhere. No need for drama.

I see the problem. There is no such thing as a 90 day return visa exempt.

There are none; those are called bilateral agreements, not visa exempt (see the attached)

Citizens of those Countries dont need a visa to enter for 90 days, so they ARE 'visa exempt'. Read the remarks on the photo you posted, it says they are "tourist visa exempt"

Unless you're Brazilian, Argentinian, Chilean or South Korean, visa exempt is 30 days stay max.

There are many onward ticket websites that will buy a ticket for you for around 500 baht. This is what most people do to prevent getting refused flight. it's a very cheap solution that always work.

May I know which airline ? Actually I dont think it s their business. They are not immigration officers. And we all know you can extend your stay with exempt visa.

Sorry but you are very WRONG. The airline must make sure you comply with entry requirements otherwise they are legally required at their cost to take you back out if refsed entry.

It is their business and it's also Thai Immigation business, try getting a CoE on a visa exemption without return/onward travel. Plus there's no guarantee of an extention of stay although it's rarely denied.

it is the airlines business...if Thai immigration denies you entry because you do not have ticket departing Thailand the airline is responsible to fly you back to your departure city.

Not surprising. You need a flight departing Thailand within 30 days if arriving visa exempt or within 60 days if with tourist visa.
