TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai cabinet has approved automatic extensions for tourists who entered the country after March 1st, with details to be announced soon. Many commenters express skepticism, citing concerns about limited applicability to other visa types and expressing confusion regarding long-stay visas. Others are hopeful, but discussions indicate uncertainties and mixed feelings about the implications of the announcement.
Thai authorities need to change "after March 1" to "in March" on the document.
I entered ON March 1 with a visa-exempt. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I extended my stay (first extension) on March 30 at a cost of 1,900 Baht.
Once this automatic visa extension goes into effect, can I make an argument for getting a refund by showing my receipt at the IB? (assuming that no fee will be assessed for this auto-extend)

Go ahead and void it.. they'll stamp you denied, charge you 1900 baht and give you 7 days to leave. Good luck with that..

Master all you want and convince yourself what's right but you will be told on the day at the IB. Don't ask FB to garauntee your outcome. Say "void the stamp" but expect the weirdest look of bewilderment.
I will say "Void the stamp", IF the IB can guarantee an immediate refund.
Hopefully this void qualifies me immediately for the auto-extend.
Logic tells us that after saying "after MAR 1" and "before MAR 1", those of us who have mastered counting should automatically address "on MAR 1" as well.

You will be shown the stamp and asked if you want it yes or no. No such thing as a straight refund here. Money spent is money gone.
I’m just confused why there literally still isn’t anything regarding long stay visas. Doesn’t seem like it’s even been considered at this point.

Long stay visas can extend normally as they usually do. This does mean you have to meet the criteria for an extension and go physically to an immigration office.

Nothing really beneficial in this announcement - just hope and a prayer.
Believe nothing until you are Next in Line at Immigration and the I/O says Yes to your application. Speculation over these issues is just that "Speculation"
So only for the people who entered on tourist visas and won't be needing to extend until the end of April. So this is really completely pointless in terms of lessening the length of the queues, and helping people who need emergency extensions.

Auto extending retirement visas would be safer for their offices.

What about other visas? This will only help very small group of people

Flights and borders should be open again by the end of the month anyway, so don't worry
