TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the uncertainty of the Phuket Sandbox initiative, originally scheduled for July 1st. Commenters express skepticism about its implementation and note conflicting reports regarding readiness and vaccine rates. Some believe that the initiative will occur despite obstacles to save face, while others remain doubtful and suggest that policies may change unexpectedly.

Except in this case it's actually worse than reporting a false rumor. The Thaiger is referencing the Siam Rath article as saying the minister said it won't be ready by July 1, when that article said no such thing, actually even the opposite thing, that Phuket will be ready July 1. Posting false rumors is one thing, posting lies about what other media have reported is even worse in my opinion.

Phuket may or may not be ready July 1, but it won't change my mind (or anyone else's mind if they read the Siam Rath article it's based on) that the minister didn't say what Thaiger reported he said.

My experience says listen to no one and simply wait for the first wave of travelers arrive. Thailand changes it's mind more than any woman I have ever dated.

This is because of Koh Samui holiday businesses pushing to get their share of the cake. Otherwise Phuket was ready for July 1st.

its not ready

In terms of amount of vaccinated people.

Supposed to be 70 % with both vaccinations by June 16th as stated months ago now they will fudge figures and will be more than 70 % with a single injection

The number of travel bloggers and travel sites that have posted this as if it's a sure thing is really astounding. Not surprised to hear it likely won't be happening.

It may not happen, but the minister didn't say what Thaiger has reported in this case, so this erroneous article is in and of itself not a good reason to believe it won't. You can find other reasons, of course. ;-)

Wow, really not fair in this particular instance to call it a backpedal. More like journalistic malpractice. The article you posted is based solely on a Siam Rath article that basically says the opposite, that July 1st is when Phuket Sandbox will start. Complete botch job by Thaiger. The minister never said it wouldn't be ready by July 1.
