Deporting you or refusing you entry? You're required to have proof of an exit ticket out of Thailand when arriving with a visa on arrival, visa exemption, or tourist visa.

They don't normally ask, but they can. Book something on your phone.

Yes you can, you need to show the Thai embassy in the US though a plane ticket leaving the US going to Thailand for them to issue you the visa. (can be a refundable ticket, then just cancel it after your visa is issued).
