Multi-entry tourist visa question (USA passport)

Is it possible to get a METV without a job? I was denied last time I applied (Washington DC consulate) 6 months ago via their online portal because I’m unemployed. I saved some and am traveling so I won’t be employed for a while.

I’m certain that was the issue bc the consulate and I emailed back and forth a few times about this topic and they specifically said without a letter verifying employment they can’t give me the visa. Is there anything I can do? I can show reasonable savings and I can show passive income (not a lot but decent for Thailand).

Anyone have experience getting the metv? Is it notoriously difficult to get?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about qualifying for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) to Thailand without a job, citing a previous denial from the Washington DC consulate due to unemployment. Responses from the community reflect mixed experiences, indicating that while some have received the METV without proof of employment as long as sufficient funds were shown, others emphasize that requirements can vary based on the embassy or consulate. Suggestions include possibly presenting oneself as self-employed to meet documentation needs. Also noted is the option of entering Thailand visa-exempt for 30 days.

Just say you are self employed or part time casual working.

Put something like Nanny or Pet-sitter and use family or friends as a reference address. They rarely check.

I’m not aware the METV requires employment as long as you have the minimum required funds to show for. When I applied (from EU country I was never asked for proof. I was technically employed when applying, but unemployed when I went. But the bank statement I sent obviously showed my income as well.

Never heard that being an issue before , all they usually care about is that you have enough money. A

BUT each embassy may have their own special requirements.

different thai embassies has different requirements. It's not the same. Thailand has 65 different embassies world wide, and 29 consulates, some of which also gives visas.

just create an LLC... For self-employed, pls provided business license or business registration indicating the applicant’s name.... with an LLC you get all this information

You can only get the METV when you are inside your home country so unless you're traveling internally in the US you can't get one. Never heard of needing to be employed but you frequently have to show sufficient funds

Never heard of a US passport holder being denied a tourist visa because they don't have a job.

at least at the Dutch embassy the only difference is higher financial requirements. I was never asked for proof of employment. But things can vary between embassies

If they denied you then that is probably final. Come to Thailand visa exempt for 30 days which means you just fly here with your passport and they will stamp you in for 30 days. You can get 1 extension on that for 1900 baht at an immigration office giving you a total of 60 days
