I believe you might be referring to the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

You cannot get this visa in Thailand. You apply in another country through the evisa website via their embassy or consulate.

Depending on the country you choose the cost can vary from approx $300 up to $1,100.

The IOs were confused. They may have thought you were applying for a “married to a Thai” extension rather than a “retirement” extension.

There is no requirement to being in any form of relationship for the (over 50) retirement extension.

I have no idea on the policy at Samut Prakan, but many offices will require a new TM30 on return to Thailand.

Some offices like Phuket would require a new TM30 after staying in a hotel or hospital for a night.

Perhaps others here have a direct experience of what the Samut Prakan policy is.

All offices will accept a walk in application for an extension. Depending on which office you use you may find making an appointment saves you hours in a queue.

It’s 1900 baht per person to apply for the extension - only payable if they’ll accept and grant it.

It’s approximately 3,500 baht per person to fly to KL and return the same day (or make a small holiday and come back a couple of days later).

You’ll have way more chance of doing the latter without an issue than trying for the extension.

Good luck tomorrow. There’s probably around a 2% success rate for those applying for a DTV extension at Phuket. Probably similar elsewhere too.

The main stumbling block seems to be having the 500k in a bank for at least one month prior to applying for the extension.

If you have all your ducks in a row then you could get the extension granted for you and your family.

You’ll only pay if they’ll grant it. The chances are that they won’t - but there has been some who have managed.

Can’t understand where the application is asking for a proof of relationship. If you’re opting for the retirement (over 50) option then there is no need for any proof of a relationship.

If you chose the “marriage” option then it won’t work unless you are physically married. Proof of talking every day would be irrelevant.

You may have read different things Asa retirement extension is 2 months prior but a guardian extension (bar the first one) is 3 months. Both are obtain off the initial Non O visa so could be confusing.

you can extend each entry for 30 days on a METV.
