Do I Need to Submit a 90-Day Report for My DTV in Thailand?

DTV’s and 90 day reporting.

Contrary to what some YouTube videos have claimed you DO need to do a 90 day report on a DTV - if you stay in Thailand for 90 consecutive days - that’s 89 days after you entered the Kingdom.

We are getting in to the time window when some of the earliest recipients may be getting close to their first 90 days within Thailand.

Remember you can file a report two weeks prior and up to one week after due date. For this first report it will have to be in person at your local immigration office.

In theory you shouldn’t need to do a second report because you are only allowed 180 days in the country per entry but if you file early then your next report will be 90 days after that filing date.

For the second report, should you need one, then count your days carefully. If a second is due, but you leave a day or so after anyway then some believe they’ll get away with not reporting. You will when you leave, but come your next need to file a report you may well be slapped with a 2,000 baht fine for failing to report prior.

TLDR : Answer Summary
DTV visa holders in Thailand are required to submit a 90-day report if they stay for 90 consecutive days in the country. This report can be filed in-person at a local immigration office, or by mail if sent at least 14 days before the due date. There's some confusion about whether a second report is necessary, as staying for 180 days may lead to a fine for failing to report if required. Comments highlight varied experiences with the reporting process, citing challenges with online submissions and differing understandings of the requirements.

I went to immigration the other day to get a certificate of residency to open a bank and purchase a vehicle. When we were finished the immigration officer said he would see me in 180 days, which left me confused to the requirement of 90 days as well.

Perhaps a “lost in translation” moment. Or the officer just didn’t know the rules. The DTV is completely new to most officers. Currently I’d speculate that none of them will know what the requirements will be to get a 180 day extension, so many may just not be aware of the need for 90 day reports.

Good advice

I don’t understand, why this is a discussion topic ? You have to do a 90 day report, when staying in Thailand for that long and not leaving the country !!! This belongs to ALL VISA types except some Elite Visa Types, where a concierge service is doing it on your behalf.

Why do DTV holders think, they don’t have to do it ?

LTR visa holders don’t have to report every 90 days. Some believed the DTV to be similar.

@Stuart ********
Well, that’s exactly what I wrote 🤷🏼‍♀️ Elite Visa holders can use the Thai Privilege Concierge Service, LTR Visa holders also have to do a ”90-day report”, which is extended to one year. These are the only exceptions.

This will be comical going forward ,re entering etc .

@Chris *****
its different dept of immigration when entering and makes no difference if you havent filed 90 day report

The website isn't very reliable. (for me at least) I did my first report in-person. Tried to do the second reporting online, but the application was rejected thrice. They told me that "first reporting needs to be in-person." 🙄🙄

@Xylon ****
what was needed when you went to the immigration please

@Lisa *******
for me, it was my tm30, and passport. Forgot to mention that I was on the non-b visa.

@Xylon ****
thank you

Can you do first 90 day report by mail?

@Damian *****
I believe so. Have no idea if someone has done that. We don’t get many posts about people using snail mail to report.

@Stuart ********
I see, thank you for answer. I would consider this option as post office is way closer than immigration in Bangkok 😅🤣

Indeed. I got confirmation when I applied residency certificate at Immigration. “Sir, you have to submit 90 day report on this visa, don’t forget! “

That was a few days ago

How far in advance of the 90 days can you do it? Does it need to be within 14 days or 30 days? This will be my first :)

15 days prior.

Or as long as you're not applying for an extension you could just never do them.

Well other interactions with immigration may be needed, like a residence certificate or passport change etc. they will check on those if you have filed.

I think he meant that if you exit Thailand every time before 90 days, you can spend the 5 years of the DTV without even needing to file it once.

@Elías *******
No. I know what he meant. If you need no interaction with immigration then you’d probably get away with never filing one in the first place.

Yes. I know you can file by snail mail if the envelope is postmarked at least 14 days prior. Does anyone do that these days?
Jim ********
@Stuart ********
Yep. I do it that way for first one when back in the country. Post Office is five mins leisurely stroll away and instant service, as opposed to putting a day aside for CW. Total no brainer, but for some reason many expats seem to revel in a visit to an immigration office!
Inigo *********
@Jim *******
do you get some sort of confirmation that it's been received?
Jim ********
@Inigo ********
You send it EMS and enclose an EMS envelope for them to return it so it's trackable. Turnaround is about 7-10 days. Total cost is less than 100 baht (72 baht from memory last time I did it)

@Jim *******
great to know, thanks. Definitely gonna be doing it this way when the time comes!
