TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the complications tourists face with the Thailand Pass system, particularly regarding hotel bookings. There are frustrations about the verification process, where hotels must confirm bookings before the Thailand Pass is issued. Many commenters express dissatisfaction with the complexity and delays in the system, suggesting that alternative destinations like the Philippines, which have simpler entry requirements, might be more appealing. There's a general sentiment that the current system deters tourists due to its cumbersome nature.

Govts need to realize that pre-departure tests is the key much more than post-arrival.

Gotta test in Mexico before I fly back. A bit of a hassel and a added expense also.

Why they like to make things so difficult and complicated . Just allow tourtist to show all the documents , insurance , vaccinated and hotel during check in to prove .

The original test a go was about to change because it was complicated and didn't bring as many people

They decided to make it more cheap and simple just antigen test at hotel without staying

It was already decided

And then omicron came. May be soon they understand that they not attract people this way

A try at least shorten this to 1 day instead of 2 messed up tests a hotel bookings if they want to see more tourist come in

It says 'Hotels' must verify. Yes, there are a lot of 'not so smart' people working in Hotels but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If they want your business they'll make the effort...

no they haven’t. When applying for your ThailandPass in th e past you uploaded proof of a booking and would get your pass. Now the hotels have to verify the booking prior to it being issued.

So many stakeholders are involved in the process of simply arriving: the tourist, immigration, the hotel, the testing facility, the actual test, potentially a hospital. Every additional layer exponentially increases the likelihood of an error.

For once, Philippines is way ahead of Thailand -- just a negative test within 48 hrs of departure and proof of vaccination. The onus is on the tourist (to get vaccinated + get a negative test result beforehand) and immigration (to verify)... and the process ends there.

Life is going as normal. Restrictions, such as bringing children to malls and going to cinema, will be lifted in coming weeks. Realization now that pandemic is giving way to endemic stage. I expect a full return to normalcy by Mar/Apr. Just my opinion as an expat who has lived here 16 yrs.

Everything is determined by the local government, so depends entirely on the location. You'd need to do some research, but things change quickly -- there are curfews in place, generally speaking, but I suspect these will be diminished as normalcy is attained in a few months. Maybe explore some FB groups dedicated to Angeles City, Subic, and the bar scene in Manila.

That’s the problem. From hoteliers and newspapers here that I’ve spoken to, they don’t know about this new system. Going to be a lot of disappointed applicants.

Hotels was informed in several online meetings. But most SHA+managers dont attend these TAT- meetings any more. Too long and too frequent. So they missed the info altogether.
