Hi, we are an Australian couple who usually live here for 3 months a year. Due to current ‘world climate and costs’ we want to stay an additional month. We have never done a visa run. This week in Phuket but from next week Khao Lak. Land boarder options are Malaysia or Myanmar (closer to Khao Lak but more risky???).
Just wanted to share my experience with others in Australia as I had been trawling this site through the whole process.
DTV Workcation
07/03 Applied to Canberra Thai Embassy
19/03 Request for more documentation
27/03 Approval received
A bit of a late application with a sudden need for travel due to my partner's health issues (she is thai), so I was stressing a bit. I did call the embassy on the 18/03 and left a message, and emailed on the 26/03 as I was getting a little worried with a flight booked for 08/04.
Docs I provided initially: Passport, Passport Photo, License Photo, Proof of Funds (3 months), Letter From Employer, ASIC Company Extract, Payslip. Follow up documentation I provided my employment contract (also stating I can work in Thailand), and also resent the Company Extract.
This one is for the Australians in the group, in relation to the Retirement Visa. May 2026
Option 1: I'm on a monthly pension that exceeds 65,000 Thai baht a month. Do I just need bank statements from my banking institution and a cover letter stating I'm on a life pension? I was looking at the 90-day non-immigrant visa to begin with.
Option 2: 800k Thai baht in an account. Can you access the funds after 3 months, as long as it's topped up by the following year?
Any Aussies in here who've applied for the DTV via Sydney Thai consulate? I'm just wondering what they accept as proof of 500k baht since it seems to differ between embassies? thank you!
(Also, what doc did you use for showing location?)
Question for Australians who applied for 90 Day “retirement” visa in Australia.
The online application states - Retirement ( pensioner aged 50 or above with state pension who wishes to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 Days)
I qualify as I am over 50 but I do not have access to state pension yet, however I do have the 800,000thb. Do you have to have the state pension to qualify for this visa when applying within Australia?
Hello everyone, Australian sailing to Thailand next year to retire. I'm 50 years of age and receiving a monthly pension that exceeds the minimum amount. My question is I would like to live on my sailboat in Thailand, to apply for the retirement "O" visa I need a place of residence can I use a thai Marina as my address. Has anyone done this? Cheers. 🍻
Hi, I have booked myself in for Thailand from Australia at the end of October, can anyone send me in the right direction as to what site to go on for me to apply for my visa, and when should I apply before I leave. Thanks
👋 Hi, Any Australian here applied DTV with softpower? I am considering applying DTV with culinary class and after a bit of research I found a couple of courses in BKK that I could attend. My question is my husband will be travelling with me once I get the dtv visa. According to the research that I’ve done, he is eligible to be with me as dtv visa holder spouse as long as we show enough fund to cover in our bank account. My questions are:
1) has anyone done softpower dtv in Australia if so, how easy/difficult was the process?
2) In the case of partner visa to the DTV visa holder, do they get the same entry eligibility ie, can stay upto 180 days with multiple entries for 5 years?
3) I would prefer the DTV eligible culinary classes in places like Hua Hin or Chiangmai however I couldn’t find any DTV eligible culinary classes outside of BKK. Does anyone know such course outside of BKK? Any advise from any Australians who have done this would be much appreciated. TIA
