Ok. News emerging that they’ve extended the Covid visa extensions until March 25th (or perhaps 26th). This time there are a number of extra conditions. Those who entered on Non Immigrant visas, Visa on arrivals and possibly some others are not eligible. TR visas and exempt are. More details will emerge in the next few hours. Keep watching.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai government has extended the Covid visa extensions until March 25th or possibly 26th, 2022. However, the eligibility criteria have tightened, excluding those who entered on Non-Immigrant visas and Visa on Arrivals, while allowing Tourist visas (TR) and Visa Exempt entries. Further details will be provided shortly, as there is a mix of opinions among expats on how these changes will impact their current visa situations.

Would it be 60 days as the last time?

still trying to garner the full details but if eligible then yes it would be for 60 days.

@Stuart ********
Thank you,I did enter on TR & extended it once.

My sister from Myanamr has arrived to Thailand and got Covid visa extention. But heard that Covid19 visa can not extend anymore from 25th january? is that true?
William ******
Is this on arrival or exempt?
Apex ********************
@Wil****
Visa on arrival costs 2000 baht, you pay in the airport. If you didn't pay, it's an exempt entry.
Benjamin *******
I entered on Visa Exemption and only got a 30 day extension even though I asked for 60. Was told it isn’t possible under visa exemption. Can I theoretically try to get the Covid extension before my first extension runs out?
Wolfgang *******
@Paolo ***********
Me same Chonburi immigration till 1. March
Paolo ************
Sanny Antikainen, Until now, after the first normal extension to the visa exempt, other covid extensions could be done in an unlimited number, with the new rules you have to wait for the details, but it seems so
Paolo ************
71 days for covid extension, it is regular?
Paolo ************
Right, They gave me 71 days for covid extension, maybe the IO not very good for mathematics
Sanni ************
@Lyndon ***********
They gave for my cousin 45 days for the extencion of Visa Exemption (runs out on 30th of this month). He can also extend it with the Covid visa +60days, right?
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Sanni ***********
a visa exempt entry (45 days or now 30 days) can be extended at a local immigration office for 30 days.
Sanni ************
@Stuart ********
The Visa extempt entry has been extended already. So after that it is possible to apply for the Covid +60 days, correct? (The one that will be officially announced soon)
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Sanni ***********
yes. Although it’s not guaranteed. Up to the immigration officer to agree. Not heard of a single denial of yet though.
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Most offices will require you to get the “regular” 30 day extension before allowing you to apply for the Covid extension. Some will.
Benjamin *******
@Lyndon ***********
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That definitely answered all my questions 😊 I’ll try to get it extended once it’s time and see what happens 😄
Lyndon ************
@Benjamin ******
Yes, they are correct the first extension you get is 30 days. Now the covid scheme has been extended you will be able to apply for that when you have less than 30 days remaining on your stamp and get a further 60 days.

The covid extension scheme now runs until
****
/22. In which case you could apply again, once you have less than 30 days left on your new stamp and before
****
and get another 60 days. Each covid extension is 1900 the

Note, the first covid extension gives 60 days from when you apply.

The second adds 60 days to your stamp. There will be an optimum time to apply for your first stamp and still be able to get a second. Hope that makes sense
Lyndon ************
@James *******
thanks for the steer. Very welcome
Frank-Steven ***********
@Benjamin ******
Almost all immigration offices ask you to get the one time regular 30 day extension first, before they would even consider a covid 60 day.
Sergiusz ***********
@Frank-Steven **********
do you know of any immigration offices that don't do that? I only need to extend my tourist visa by about 50 days, so it would make much more sense for me to go straight for the covid extension instead of regular 30 day extension + 20 day covid extension afterwards.
Frank-Steven ***********
@Sergiusz **********
Rarely any right now. But rumor has it: Samui.
Sergiusz ***********
@Frank-Steven **********
one more question comes to mind: if they do grant you the covid extension without having to use the regular extension first, can you still use the regular extension afterwards (after the covid extension runs out)?
Frank-Steven ***********
Sergiusz ***********
@Frank-Steven **********
ah, I was hoping for Krabi or Hat Yai... Thanks anyway, always good to know :)

Brett *********
@Florian *******
what does your arrival stamp say. e.g. W30?
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Florian *******
look in your passport for the stamp that you entered on. If you were stamped in for 30 days (maybe 45 during covid times) it’s a visa exempt. If it’s 60 days it’s a tourist visa. If it’s 15 days it’s visa on arrival. But you’d need to Chinese or Indian (or basically non western country for that).
Brett *********
looks like 30 days visa exempt entry.

I’m sure there are some people who have benefited from the visa extension for over 2 years so they had time to figure out plan B, if they didn’t well they just didn’t plan on this ever going away or immigration becoming the immigration of old…good luck to everyone trying for the extension but always have a plan B
Frank-Steven ***********
@Jeremy *******
Or was it Thailand / the Thai tourism-reliant economy that benefitted from them? Lets hope that side is working on a Plan B, too. 😉
Jeremy ********

if you can apply for that visa than do it…if not figure out plan B
Frank-Steven ***********
@Jeremy *******
Always, always have a Plan B. Agreed. But the truth is: For most younger than 50 years old, there is no better alternative. As all the alternatives for younger people come with either a lot of unwanted strings and restrictions attached (ED and B visa), or are just much more expensive (Elite).

Just to check - TR means tourist visa? And those are eligible for covid visa? Thank you for the update!! 🤩🙏🏼

Yes

it expires early Feb ,but I have already got a "under consideration " Covid extension stamp yesterday

The PE is considered a tourist visa rather than a non immigrant tho ???

So I should be able to use it again to extend in March ? ( if so required etc )

@Garrett **********
What about a PE visa ? It's still considered a tourist visa so will be eligible for a Covid extension under these new requirements ???

What about entering on visa exempt and switching to a nonB work visa

@David **********
yes probably but will immigration let you back in if they see you’ve been in Thailand for a long time? In the ancient pre-Rona days the land border hoping for 30 day extensions was coming to an end or no more than 3 consecutive times at one point, the SETV visa for life was becoming more restrictive as well…so if they go back to what they were they don’t have to let you back in…even the airport immigration was scrutinizing border hopers and the rules for air entrance were unlimited in/outs, border hopers always had encountered the few immigration officers that would not let you pass

Lyndon ************
That's going to annoy so many of the righteous 'should go home' brigade. Brilliant, I love it
Frank-Steven ***********
@Lyndon ***********
Amen. The old brigade, thinking they own this country, just because they get an easy long term visa based on nothing but being, well, old, they will be even more frustrated now. Good news today.

half of them are probably on year long extensions that an agent got for them for 50k baht or so. Must hurt to see that some have managed to stay for two years for 22k.

@Stuart ********
I like you 👍
Troy *******
@Lyndon ***********
the worst thing about the "should go home" brigade is that they are pretty much always douchebags who somehow got themselves here then ended up in the "can't go home" crew (ie. Knocked up a bar girl, then told their home friends & family that it wasn't an accident inorder to not look like a brain-dead git - it was a conscious choice to stay here because of true love." - and y'know, the resultant attitude is "yeah I'm pretty much native Thai now, and we don't like farang in our country."

@Stuart ********
I don't currently have a non-imm visa, that's my next step a non-o retirement. All new to me.

I thought you could extend from your non-imm visa in country? Like the 90 day to 12 months and then again. What am I missing?

Why would they need a covid extension?
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Lyndon ***********
many, many, many foreigners here had one year visas that allowed them entry for 90 days. Then they’d do a border bounce with a neighbouring country and come back in for the next 90 days. The usual reason would have been because they didn’t have the funds for a year long extension, or their employment set up didn’t allow for a year long extension. Of course covid put a stop to border bouncing and they’ve stayed here on covid extensions. Personally I’d say the vast majority of those on covid extensions current were in that boat. Tourists tend not to stay in a country 2 years or more.
Scot *******
@Stuart ********
- what kind of visa is that, that is for a year, but requires a 90 day border run?
Ivan ************
@Sc**
it's a 1 year multiple-entry non-immigrant visa. 90 days per visit, valid for 1 year, but need to leave every 90 days.

******************************************************************************************
Scot *******
@Ivan ***********
- thank you.
Frank-Steven ***********
@Stuart ********
I do believe you a mentioning ONE major group, yes: Retirees' without the requested amount of funds. But don't underestimate another major group: Younger people, who make (passive or digital / remote) income from outside of Thailand and just prefer sending time here than in (the winter times of) the west. Especially, since COVID appears to be a little less of a problem when being able to spending most of the time outside / at the fresh air as opposed to in closed rooms. Let's hope the Thai government stays true to their word this year and finally comes up with regular long term visa for the latter (beneficial) group.
Stuart *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Frank-Steven **********
more like three major groups. Those that have lived here forever, either over 50 or married to a Thai, but didn’t have the finances for a year long extension, or those on a non B working visa, but their company set up didn’t allow for a year extension. I don’t disagree about the younger nomads.

It’s based on the original visa we entered in on correct?
Jim **********
@Jess ********
im told they base it on the most recent visa in your passport.
Jessica ******
Paul Weinhardt Yeah I still think it’s based on the visa entry stamp type. Aren’t we technically “tourists” on these extensions ?
Jessica ******
@Billy *****
I understand it’s good for Tourist Visa and Visa Exempt. The question some of us have is - is the new clarification based on the visa you entered the Kingdom in on or will they look at your secondary visa. Example. Entered in on a tourist visa but had the ED visa for some time. When my Thai Partner read the announcement - it appears to reference the visa we entered in on originally. 🙏🏻
Bizkit ******
My thai wife read the article and they specific mentioned that restriction on the "non immigrant visas" only for the renewal. Other than that would be consider resume as normal !
Jessica ******
@Billy *****
Yes each clarification begins with “the foreigner entering the Kingdom in on:”
Bizkit ******
Bizkit ******
So far they mentioned for "TR & exempt" are applicable for this scheme and for non imm and on arrival are prohibited. I think for more clear picture better to show up in their office and make clarification.
Jessica ******
@Billy *****
meaning for people who are switching from one now?
Frank-Steven ***********
@Jess ********
Unless you changed to another visa in-country, I would assume.
Jessica ******
@Frank-Steven **********
I did change to an ED visa which was cancelled however when my partner (who is Thai) read it, it reads as “the visa you entered the Kingdom on.” Will be interesting to see with more updates.
