Slight difficulty on my 3rd entry on the DTV (workcation, granted December 2024). I've stayed close to the full 6 months the previous 2 entries. Haven't had a flight booked out before.
Entry 1: Jan 2025 -> July 2025. No questions asked for the first entry. Tried to extend in July. Immigration officer said docs were perfect, but 12 days remaining validity wasn't enough time, needed to be 15 days or more in advance. He suggested I fly to KL and back on the same day.
Entry 2: July 2025 -> Dec 2025. Did as they suggested, and hardly a word said when I got the second stamp. Flew back home (South Africa) in Dec.
Entry 3: Jan 2026. Flew into Phuket after 3 weeks at home. Officer asked how long I'm here for, and I said until June when I'll book a flight out and back in. Probably shouldn't have said I'd come straight back, but that's what they suggested last time, so thought it was fine. She called the supervisor, was pulled over to the side and had to book a flight out right there and then... luckily just to any other country. Booked one way to KL, showed them confirmation on my phone, and then was stamped through.
Bit of a non-issue, as a flight out is a requirement for all tourism type visas I think. No mention of the 20k cash or 500k in the bank. Just wanted to share my experience and see if anyone has had anything similar?
Once stamped in, I asked if I could apply for the DTV extension in the country. The IO said that they could deny it if I've been staying "too long term". Was a bit confused - am I not using the visa as intended? I thought you could technically re-enter back to back every 6 months for the 5 year validity. Not planning on staying here for 5 years, but thought it was possible. Guessing I just ran into a stickler for the rules - will make sure I have a ticket out for future entries.
Hey folks! For those who don't fit the criteria for DTV but want to stay a few months, is there an option for 6-month tourist visa? I've heard of this and it feels like an urban legend because I'm not sure I know anyone who has actually gotten it (maybe I don't know anyone who has applied for it). If yes, which countries can successfully get a 6-month tourist visa? Thanks!
As we have heard that Thailand os requiring proof of income again for tourist visa applications for 6p days.
I am reading the update and this is only talking about nationalities required to apply for it.
It isn't saying anything about people under "exempt" status. Where you dont have to apply for a 60 day tourist visa you can show up with approved passport and get the 60 day stamp.
Asking for a friend so does not pertain to myself personally hence the anonymous post. Apologies if that breaks any standard protocols :-)
Regarding the proof of funds (500,000THB or equivalent on another currency): have anyone had any issues of any kind, shape or form, when they have shown the required funds being in a Thai bank account in their own (applicants) name?
My friend is worried that, since DTV is a tourist related visa, that if the funds are sitting in a Thai bank account in their own name (applicants), that the embassy processing the application might feel "but, are you truly a genuine tourist since you have a Thai bank account already?" and start asking questions.
I think it's a fair question and I have tried to help my friend Google it but impossible as it is swamped by results related to "Can I get a Thai bank account with a DTV visa?" which is not related to what I am asking here.
The group members input and first-hand experience would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
I have a question regarding my ME tourist visa extension.
How does it work, do I need to fill out and submit the same papers as for a normal tourist visa extension? And do I need a letter from my landlord again? I already send it to my embassy when I applied for the ME so I’m not sure if I need to show it to them again or if it’s enough if I just go there with the print of my ME Visa ?
Hello all, appreciate advice here - we’re applying for an SETV from the U.K. and will have an outgoing flight as part of the procedure. Does the outgoing flight need to be within 60 days? Even though we’ll get an extension?
Has anyone done a 30 day visa extension trip Ranong to Myanmar and back to Ranong recently?
Did you use one of the longtail touts who hang around the pier? How did it go?
Also: What was required please back in Thailand, as I recall the only thing mentioned on the descriptive boards there was 20,000 Bhat, presumably in cash, but I suspect the well prepared will also have an onward ticket out of Thailand, and a hotel booked for the next night.
