All Thai embassies and consulates now use the evisa system. This means you apply in the country you are at.

For Vientiane they don’t accept online payments so you do go to the embassy to pay in person.

Depends on how long you intend to stay. For 60 days or less then no.

Not everyone in the UK has a UK passport I assumed he had one too based on the wording but without knowing if that’s the case it’s just not possible to be presise.

Regardless of whether you managed to get some form of piggyback visa or two separate visas/extensions you’d both be paying the same amount each year. All extensions are 1,900 baht.

What I believe you mean is that the financial requirement would be double. 800k for you and 800k for her.

You aren’t paying double but you do need to each have 800k. With a bit of jiggling you could time the extensions so that one gets theirs on X date and one gets theirs 3+ months later. You could save having to have the extra 400k in each account, but I suspect it would be a nightmare to administer.

Wow. I’ve heard horror stories from there. Didn’t know it was that bad….

More often than not they’ll want a full 12 month printout of bank statements. Your local branch may not be able to provide right away so you have to apply from HQ so that may take some days.

Different bank branches may have options. That’s why it’s a good idea to visit the immigration office to check what’s needed.

Other than Jomtien that is. It’ll take a day just to find out from there.

Here’s hoping others with direct experience from there can fill in the blanks.

That’s an option. For the first “year” they normally charge around 35-40k for the Non O plus the 12 month extension (so 15 months) and then around 20k for yearly after that.

Some prefer to pay 1,900 baht and DIY.

What website would that be? Thai embassy websites are notoriously bad in information that they give out as they are operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (who run the embassy and sell visas), but it’s immigration who set the policy for getting in country visas or extensions. Probably better to ask a FB group who specialise in visa situations and are up to date with current policies.

Yeah avoid them like the plague. Except you probably can’t. Others on here with direct experience of there may be able to help.
