He can just go to savannaket Laos which isn't far anyway and you get a holiday from it ☺

He should go to a Thai consulate in the US and apply for the multiple entry none o visa based on married to Thai. That'll give him one year then after that get the same visa outside of Thailand such as Laos. This is what I do.
