TLDR : Answer Summary
For the extension of stay based on a marriage visa in Chiang Mai, it is generally acceptable to obtain your bank letter up to 7 days prior to your immigration appointment. However, recent experiences indicate that Chiang Mai immigration prefers bank statements and letters to be more recent, ideally on the day of application. Some users recommend confirming the latest requirements directly with the immigration office or consulting local resources, as processes can vary.

Chiangmai immigration asks for the bank certification letter, a one-year statement, and your bank book updated the day you apply. I applied yesterday and they wanted me to get a new certification letter. Note that, while the Bangkok Bank in Chang Phueak will issue the certification letter while you wait (100 baht) they told me it takes 5 business days for the 1 year statement (200 baht). My Bangkok Bank branch in Mae Ai, where I live, issued both of those while I waited...

the immigration office allows the one year statement to be dated pretty much any time in the last couple of weeks as long as the bank book is updated the date you go

I think there's a lost in translation as far as the validity of the bank letter because Chiang Mai was allowing it to be within 7 days for a long long time

The Chiangmai immigration handout is not helpful on how recent all the bank documents must be.

And, yeah, that's what I thought for the bank letter - 7 days - but Chiangmai wants it more recent.

WRT the 1 year statement probably best to plan that it might take the bank 5 days to generate it. Now, whether or not Chiangmai immigration will accept screen shots of a 'statement' from your bank's personal banking app or website, I don't know.

down here in Bangkok the banks are telling people they can print 6 months of transaction history on demand but it takes 5 days to request the earlier 6 months so you can show a year.

Of course the way around that is to update your bank book at a minimum of once per month.

Good news, I got everything done yesterday morning in the bank then went straight to cm immigration with under consideration until Christmas day!

Did you go to the immigration office with your thai wife BEFORE you are needing your extension; talk to them about what's required, get the hand out listing the documents, copies, bank stuff, photos, maps etc you need?

How did you get on?

I'm going today but just thought I'd ask here beforehand also. Cheers and I'll keep you posted

AFAIK; Chiang Mai Immigrations still allows you to get the bank letter up to 7 days before you show up for your extension.

You'd get a better answer posting on a Chiang Mai specific f/b page because they're better dialed in with that office.

is this needed in Chiang Mai though?

@Andrew *****
, yep it is, AND you need to copy every page of your bank book and update the bank book on the date you apply.

That letter IS the 'bank statement' you asked about
