Hi all. Can anyone help me with the none immigrants B visa based on working here. My friend just got hers today and it says enter before 7 May. I thought a none immigrants B visa was 12 months? Am I guessing just before her entry before date she simply goes to Chiang mai immigration and get a further 12 months of extensions of stay ? Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on extending a Non-Immigrant B visa based on employment in Thailand. A user inquires about their friend's recent acquisition of a single-entry Non-Immigrant B visa that allows entry until May 7, and they cite confusion over the expiration details. Comments clarify that this type of visa typically offers a 90-day stay upon entry, and must be extended at an immigration office in Thailand for up to one year. Key points include needing the correct paperwork, applying at least 21 days prior to the current visa expiration date, and understanding that the visa status changes to 'used' after the first entry.

Man I have a headache....So what I can understand is that she got a single entry 90 day visa that she has already used by entering Thailand. She now goes to immigration and prepares all of the documents required for a year extension and applies for that a min of 21 days (more is advised) . If she needs to exit the country at any time during the 90 days (or the year extension) she will need to apply for a RE-entry permit from immigration or at the airport.

Sorry mate, so she got the visa at Vientianne Thai embassy - entered Thailand and then left again? If it's single entry this would mean it's no longer valid. If she is currently in Thailand, that's why it would say 'used' on it.

Oh she got the used stamp at nongkai immigration so she's officially back in Thailand lol
Ron *******
I'm confused why it would say used? Maybe somebody else can answer? Something don't seem right if it's true and she's not mistaken.

Hasn't entered back into Thailand yet but it says used in it already

Andrew, you say when she re-enters but above you have said the visa is stamped used?

So, when she renters Thailand they'll stamp her in for 90 days and 21 days before that's up go to immigration office to apply for the 12 months extension of stay?

You said she’s entered Thailand already on this visa? Is she has and she leaves its voided!

@Tod ********
! now I know more 555 do you know what paperwork is needed for her yearly extension? maybe WP and teacher licence?

@Andrew *****
once she gets here she's stamped in for 90 days and when she has 45 days or less left on that stamp she can apply for her yearly extension.

Ok but how long does she have to do that extension of stay once back in Chiang mai?
Paul *********
Yes used because single is one entry. She now has to go to immigration apply for an extension to one year and provide necessary paperwork for a years single entry.

Because the VISA is nothing more than an entrance ticket to become a Admitted to Stay period, with a Single Entry VISA it is USED on the first entry and nothing more than a memory in your passport.

Yes its single entry none B visa 90 days from Vientiane

She probably got an 3 month SE non-B. Need to extend per year at immigration with all required paperwork etc...

@Paul ********
you are incorrect, you can apply for an extension of stay any time you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp and you don't need at least 21 days left on a stamp to apply for an extension

That is the time you need in Chiang Mai to apply for a Non-Immigrant VISA.

Extensions and visas are not the same.
Valère *************************
Exactly. You can extend as soon as the employment is ongoing, wp in hand and at least one salary has been paid out.... but do correct me if I'm wrong.
Paul *********
do not wait until the last date. They need at least 21 days to process the extension.

Extend just before the date at immigration office?
Ron *******
It will say on the visa either S or M. Single or multi. I don't know what you applied for, how or where?
Paul *********
Where did she get it from?

Is it a S single entry visa valid for 90 days?

A lot of consulates only issue 90 days now and you have to go to immigration and apply to make it a 12 month visa.

7 May to enter Thailand you mean but its for 12 months Ron?
Ron *******
The 7th of May is the date you have to enter by. If you don't enter by that date, the visa is finished.
