I plan to move to Thailand in February 2027 and apply for Non O-A Visa 90 days prior to my arrival. I was hoping that someone could clarify this for me. When they ask for proof of insurance when I apply for my visa, do I have to provide my current US health insurance provider? Or, do I have to acquire approved Thai health care insurance? I really don't want to have to pay my premiums in the US and have insurance premiums in Thailand and I've not arrived yet. Maybe I'm overthinking this too much. Kind replies are appreciated.

I am a government officer who is interested in applying for DTV through signing up for a thai cooking class. What would be the process if applying from Karachi? Are they giving this visa to Pakistanis?

Hello everybody, i have a question and I'm hoping you guys can help me with my expectations.

I am a 40 year old war veteran who got wounded during a mission in Afghanistan. Due to that I have a disability pension, funded by the government, of €3500,- monthly (steady income). I have about €25000,- in savings (sitting in my bank account for almost a year). I want to participate in Muay Thai classes for 6 months (the soft power route) But due to my injury i'm not capable of doing more than 2 lessons a week.

If i can find a Muay Thai boxing school who will help me and provide me with an acceptance letter for these few lessons I will participate in weekly, do you think my application for a DTV will be accepted? And in which city is it best for me to apply? I'm in the Netherlands now, but I heard that Den Haag is not that easy.

Thank you.

I got approved for a 5 year DTV (workcation) at HCMC. I'm leaving this info to help anyone.

First off a big thanks to all the helpful people who gave me advice here!

I applied on March 6th, got approved on Mar 24th. I do freelance tutoring for international students looking to study in the USA/UK and have a different set up than other teachers here. I had to provide...

A demonstration on Zoom how I teach (screenshots of how I set up my lessons)

Two different bank accounts (3 months worth), one of them highlighted showing the cash in USD (foreign and my USA account)

My schedule, Zoom logs, correspondence with students/clients

My freelance profiles

My bank only releases a statement once a month, which I was worried about since I need to leave Vietnam by April 4th, but they accepted a web print off for March. The statement still hasn't been published for March by my bank and probably won't be till the 30th.

They came back to me twice asking for documents. The first time was the one which required a whole afternoon to assemble. The second time was just asking for corrections with my highlights (probably so it was clearer and easier to read since there was some overlaps in data) of my US bank statements.

This is a big relief for me since I thought I may not get it in time.

The consulate site says 4-5 business days for processing but it takes longer. I would budget minimum a month for this if you consider yourself clever enough to assemble all the documents (you merge them on ilovepdf).

There isn't really any reason to pay anyone to do this since you would be doing 85% of the work yourself gathering documents. The only reason to hire an agent is if you are so loaded that you care about the afternoon of work it will save you and concentration you need to give to it.

I used Claude AI to organize everything and assist me which was great, just check for typos and errors.

DTV Visa - Soft Power Approval

Recently had a soft power DTV approval for Muay Thai at Kathmandu embassy and I have made it to Thailand, so I thought I’d share in case it’s helpful:

Where: Kathmandu, Nepal (arrived here from Thailand)

Timeline:

- Sunday 25th January: online visa form completed

- Monday 26th January: 11:40am payment submitted in-person at embassy (no online payment option). Visa application officially submitted.

- Tuesday 27th: 10:20am additional document request: round-trip flight ticket

- Wednesday 28th: 11:45am (bought +) submitted (refundable) round trip flight ticket for the first 180 days

- Thursday 29th: 9:50am additional document request: accommodation booking for the whole 180 days

- Thursday 29th: 10:30am submitted (cancellable, no pre-payment needed) accommodation booking for whole 180 days

- *called and emailed embassy repeatedly as they were silent for ages with no updates, very unhelpful*

- February 18th: interview requested for February 25th

- February 19th: interview cancelled with no warning and rescheduled for February 20th

- February 20th: had interview (details below)

- February 20th: a couple of hours later the approval came though

Total turnaround time:

- Jan 26th-Feb 20th: 25 days

Entry to Thailand:

- I just printed out the visa that the Nepali Thai Embassy had emailed me and presented it at immigration, she didn’t ask a single question or request anything else besides my passport and general that online form that everyone has to fill in, and gave me the DTV stamp

Documents I initially submitted:

- I was very comprehensive with everything I submitted across the 3 documents, details below

Document 1: Finances

- I included an overall cover letter at the start of this document

- Around 150,000 of the 500,000 baht savings had been transferred into one of my accounts only a couple of days before my application by someone else (even then, I only just met the threshold in time for me to print out the statements)

- The savings were spread across 4 accounts total (I provided 3 months of bank statements for each account ), I included the combined calculations and a currency conversion to Thai baht using Wise

Document 2: Gym/accommodation/flight

- Gym booking: I booked 6 months 2x per week as it was cheapest - I spoke to the gym and they said I could redeem the amount of money payed for the booking however I wanted. Eg. I could train twice daily for 1-2 months instead of twice weekly for 6 months

- Also included some cheeky pics of me doing Muay Thai, as I saw someone on here say they’d been asked for evidence of their interest in Muay Thai

Document 3: proof of location / address

- Proof of current location in Nepal (flight booking to Nepal, selfie outside my hostel in KTM with location visible), + proof of UK residency (front page of my bank statement)

About my interview:

- it was very casual, he didn’t even seem to know I was arriving and had no questions/documents with him in preparation, just a little empty notebook which he wrote about 6 words in lol

He asked:

- What is your name?

- Where are you from?

- Were you born there?

- How long have you been in Nepal?

- Where are you staying in Nepal?

- Tell me about your employment situation

- He said so your parents will sponsor your trip - I said they may contribute but the savings I’m living off are my own earnings not from my parents

- How often do you travel to/in Thailand?

- How long do I want to be in Thailand?

- Asked if I have mobile banking proof and I said are hard copies okay - he said yes and glanced at them briefly

- He said roughly how much money do you have all together? And a rough guess is fine because he will just check the submitted documents after

- Have you been travelling in Nepal alone?

- Will you be travelling in Thailand alone?

Then he said ‘you will receive the result today’, which I did

Hope this helps someone!

I am just looking into DTV visa for heading to Thailand in September.

My initial plan is sign up to a cooking course for 12 months (Infusion koh Samui).

I am a teacher though so longer term I will start teaching online.

Am I best to set up online teaching before I go? Has anyone changed their reason for DTV after 6/12 months?

Sorry if these questions seem obvious, I have been googling like mad but then found this page so thought someone might have actual experience!

I am a solo mother to triplet boys (age 4) and currently also teaching in London while raising them here. So my life is really full on at the moment (hence wanting a calmer life in Thailand!). This is why I would like to start by learning Thai cooking for us as a family and have a calm few months before getting back into teaching for income.

Thanks in advance:)

Has anyone applied for a partner visa for the DVT? I am in Vietnam, my husband just submitted his application to Ho chi Minh and we are waiting for approval. I'm still confused as to whether or not i need to meet the 500,000 thb requirement individually, his covers me, or he needs 1 million thb in an account ti cover us both? Anyone go through this yet?
