yes come as normal will make no difference and if anything like Singapore and Malaysia there are always people that forget and get assisted filling in. No idea when they will announce they are not very good at that.

If its anything like normal you will get between 24hrs to 48 hrs notice before implementation and then system will fail 48 hrs to 72 hrs after. TIT

And thats exactly why its easier to fly out.

Book ahead couple of months get cheap flights (plenty interesting places) and will be cheaper than

baht (i think) extension fee and a whole lot less hassle
