TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the serious consequences of overstaying a visa in Thailand, emphasizing that even one day of overstay can lead to arrest and deportation, as illustrated by a recent case of a foreigner caught after one day overstay. Multiple comments express frustration and caution against the common misconception that overstaying a few days is acceptable if a fine is paid. Participants agree that Thai authorities enforce immigration laws strictly, highlighting the potential for significant penalties, including long-term bans from re-entering the country.

It’s happen twice in the last 6 months in my rural village near Chiang mai. One for 1 day and another for 4 days. Both arrested/detained by police. Strange that these foreigners can’t read date and leave the country.

I am sure he was allow to book a ticket out on 1 day overstay. But the police don't ever passport for all the illegal Africans and working street indians that sell watches on soi 4. Stop trying to make farangs looks bad. We are not the issue.

in no way was i intimating in any way that motorcycle riders are bad in any way. However as a car driver I have been stopped maybe twice in 20 years. That the bikes cop it is just fact. No offence taken.

Very good to see Thailand strictly enforcing immigration law…it benefits the interests the Thailand people and law abiding visitors.

The U.S. and other western countries could learn from Thailand’s good example.

yes Sir. That's what the rules say. You CAN get deported. If you can show a flight ticket with a departure date of the same day or next day, you can expect some leniency. But it is not guaranteed

1 day 1,200 days it doesn’t matter…an overstay is an overstay

And he was caught by the BiB so he will get a 5 year ban

100%... many people give to advice that it is 'ok' to overstay a few days.. just pay the 500thb fine per day when leaving... they fail to mention what will happen 'if' they are pulled up by the BiB... sounds like this guy is going to deserve his nice red stamp.

The odds of getting pulled is extremely rare, unless you cause trouble like this dude. The last time I was asked for my passport was 7 years ago.

Got to admit used to do it on purpose before to avoid long departure queues at airports. Just headed straight to officer and say on overstay was quicker than the queues.

unless you drive a vehicle, or you get visited due to an overstay, the chances of being asked by police to show your passport on the street to prove legal status are close to 0.

You are just one case. I’ve beeb visiting Thailand since 1994, had two long term visas, 20+ visa exemptions, stayed long term for training camps, and I am yet to be stopped by police to have status checked.

Wnat I said is true, for most expats in the country, unless driving, or on overstay, the chance of being stopped to have papers checked is so small that you don’t even think about it
