TLDR : Answer Summary
There is some confusion regarding TM30 reporting requirements for expats in Thailand. While some individuals claim that the requirement for TM30 only applies when returning from abroad, others assert that interpretations vary by province. For instance, in Mahasarakham Province, local authorities clarified that reporting is not required when leaving the province, but only upon re-entering Thailand. Conversely, Phuket has historically enforced stricter TM30 regulations. Discussions highlight inconsistencies in reporting requirements across different regions.

Phuket was always particularly hardcore on this, before other provinces got on board with the all TM30 all the time bandwagon. Maybe most provinces seem to be going back to their normal practice before the ramp up- and with Phuket this was, new TM30 if you step foot off the island. Other provinces seem to be going back to their respective practices which were usually only required if coming back from outside Thailand.
I may be mistaken, but I think up until last year, Bangkok never even required a TM30 on your return to Thailand from abroad.

I went to the Jomtien immigration the other day when I arrived and was told no need as long as I'm still living in same place.

I made that post, and I stand by it.
This is what happened in Mahasarakham Province on January 2, 2020. I did not claim this change for all of Thailand.
Before you claim a post is a lie, you need to carefully read it first.

I returned to Thailand in October and reported to Chaeng Wattana. I ask the specific question as to whether or not I’m required to register if I spend time out of my province. I was told NO, only report when returning from a trip outside Thailand.
