To all who are saying its become more violent, i dont think thats the case at all, just now with social media information is known.

I stayed in Phsng nga bay in the late eighties, and that area was well known for pirates and guns were common place. One morning on koh yoa noi we woke up to a battle ship anchored off the village. The police needed the navy ship with all guns facing the village to be able to go in. The villagers still killed the headman and his family after the fact. I actually was on the bus with him on way to bangkok where he had been summoned to speak. Because he couldnt secure release, they shot him when he got back.

The lovely tourist island of samui. Any vietnamese boat people who had fled vietnam and were unlucky enough to land there were killed and belongings taken, estimates of this are in the Thousands.

I have only been here 5 years, so I am wondering if it is new or has always been like this.

I think many of the problems you mention do not happen overnight. Greed, inequality, racism... perhaps always around?

Just more people reporting problems now than the good old days.

I am not stating it as a fact, just wondering.
