Is the only thing I need to enter Thailand is a passport ?
Answer summary
Entering Thailand requires more than just a passport. Key requirements include a valid passport (at least 6 months until expiration and blank pages), a completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) submitted within 0-72 hours before arrival, proof of onward travel (like a return flight), and potentially proof of funds (about 20,000 THB or equivalent in cash). Depending on your nationality, you may also need a visa. It's essential to be prepared for these requirements to avoid issues at immigration.

You need a passport that is at least 6 months and more before it expires , TDAC , a ticket out of Thailand , and 20,000 thai baht in cash , just to be sure , as they can ask, but rarely.

Actually, no. While your passport is the most important document, entering Thailand in 2026 involves a few more steps and potential requirements depending on where you are from and how long you plan to stay.

Here is the breakdown of what you need beyond just a passport:

1. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

2. Visa Requirements

3. Proof of Onward Travel & Funds

4. Passport Validity

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Kayo Kenattak now, that is not the case... Thailand has many immigration rules, and in the end it depends on how the Immigration Officer feels that day. We all have our own experiences, too often contradictory to the National rules.

Quite a few people here have given you the right answer, but as recommend before, go to the website of the Thai Embassy in your country...

The distinction is in the question: is it for a holiday (few weeks up to 60 days), or longer...

Just do the TDAC thing online within 72 hours of travel plus your passport. Your airline will ask for an onward ticket, but immigration won’t. And you won’t be asked about money unless you look like a beggar or something, even then they probably won’t ask you (backpackers and all other manner of riff raff get in). Depends on your passport.

But if you arrive visa-exempt, you should bring 20 000 baht or equivalent in another currency, in cash. This is a stated requirement from Immigration, and you may be asked for to show it.

You will also need a ticket OUT of Thailand within 60 days. Without it you might not even be allowed to board your plane.

Neither of these will always be something that's always asked for, but both of them are requirements that can be asked for.

The TDAC will need to be sent in 0-72 hours before estimated arrival in Thailand.

Facebook is facebook, somebody is so sure and says something and somebody says thats wrong or not right. Better to use google first then ask. I am slowly weaning myself off cos i already know what i need to know, 90 day easier on line rather than your immigration says this and another says that. If we hotel anywhere my wife regesters me online and 1y retirement just phone up and asked whats changed this year easy. Originally i looked immigration website its all there. 1 tip for everybody, use Krungsri bank, i never get a no we cant do that. Since i retired at 50 i have never worked yet im allowed a thai cc. Kayo Kenattak yes you need your passport, it has to be 6 months left before expires. You need 20.000Baht (if they ask) you need to fill out TDAC, it’s an arrival form (digital) it’s free so don’t pay anything for it. You find the QR code at your Thai embassy.

There is no vaccines needed to enter but have vaccine for Hepatitis A+B, preferably also have for Duenge fever (from mosquitoe bites).

Have you decided where in Thailand you plan visit? or make a new post and you get 1 million answers 😆

John Cooler I never been asked to show proof of currency out of the bunch of times I’ve gone thru immigration. I’m always carrying at least $4k usd anyways. I never look up any countries minimum cash entry requirements. I always travel to every country prepared with cash. I don’t know 1 person that travels anywhere with less than $650 usd on them. Dont want to be rude but if anyone is traveling with less than that or cannot prove they have at least $650usd on them then they don deserve to travel.

I know recently where a women went viral on ig or TikTok saying she was denied entry to Thailand because she couldn’t show she had 20,000b. Story is that she was border hopping and staying for many months in Thailand so immigration wanted a reason to deny her so they asked her to show proof of 20,000b.

Also, Thailand requires an onward ticket but I have never been asked to show proof. I have book a one way ticket before but I am prepared to book a return ticket the min they do ask me to show proof. Bust out my cell phone and book a return ticket thru app or credit card portal.

Kenny Gee I heard to make sure you have 20,000 baht worth of money either your currency with exchange equal to 20,000 baht or 20,000 baht

Jeff Hoffmeister I never have been asked at immigration. $600 usd isn’t a lot of money for someone who’s traveling. Let’s just say they don’t have the cash. The should have debit card to withdrawal the cash out. Let’s say they forget the debit card. Then last resort is withdrawal from credit card. There will be a fee but that fee is cheaper than being denied and buying a return ticket back home. If anyone fails this then they don’t deserve to travel.

TDAC and theoretically, 20,000 in Thai baht cash or equivalent. Your airline may ask for proof of onward travel. Are you coming on a visa exemption?

Jeff Cambey they don’t have to ask but can. It has been a rule for a while and one in the last few months that has been enforced more often. Google/youtube people denied entry over not having it. 20k baht for single person and 40k for families. It does not have to be in baht but has to equal that amount.

Della F Moores Yet thousands of Indian tourists seem to appear in Pattaya with 20 baht between the lot. I've seen them arguing with a Song Taew driver over a 10 baht fare with my own eyes. You couldn't make it up. Yet they have no issues at Immigration
