Air China (perhaps the one you had in mind?) is one of China's several government-sponsored airlines.

Yeah I’m just glad I am from Seattle and can fly back through Korea or Japan. At least if something happens and I get stranded in one of those countries, it’s about 37,000 times better than being stuck in China.
