I am arriving next week, is it true that the visa exemption has changed from 60 to 30 days ?😟😱
Answer summary
As of March 2026, the visa exemption period for many nationalities entering Thailand remains at 60 days. While there are discussions about potentially reducing this to 30 days, no official change has occurred yet. Travelers are advised to check official sources for the most current information and to prepare accordingly.

Thus will be of de ha vu style interest to those who got caught in the turmoil of change during the wuhan scam period.... when travellers mid flight found the rules had changed on them overnight without warning...
Nothing has changed yet. It's still 60 days free entry with 30 days extension. They are in the initial steps of changing this, but it hasn't been approved yet. If it happens most likely it will be later this year, June or August.
Pla Tong - Kirstie in Thailand x yes, it is not true yet it's a good idea to keep oneself apprised of updates as it may change going forward. For now though, the answer is nope, still at 60.
It may change 5 times before you arrive.. or at least they may SAY it's changing 5 times before you arrive, but change nothing. I'm starting to think Thailand do this on purpose for some reason - they like to confusion it creates.. not sure why.
Thailand is moving forward with reducing the visa-free stay from 60 days back to 30 days, as reported in March 2026. While approved in principle to curb abuse, no exact implementation date has been finalized. The current 60-day rule for 93 countries remains in place until the new regulation is officially announced.
Here we go again . It's been an ongoing saga for quite awhile . The powers that be are to busy forming a governments and getting ready to constitution yet again to worry about that at the moment.
No, but you will probably be asked by immigration very precisely for the purpose of your stay. The flight ticket will also be checked. 60 days is not considered touristy believed more. So be well prepared, what you want to do, where you live, etc. Without a visa, it's getting more and more difficult.
Joe Wongsena but you see it every day, how long does it take to google and then you get a true and direct answer, and if you don’t like what I put on there just scroll past
Anett Miehle As of March 2026, citizens of most European countries (including all EU member states, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and others) are eligible for Thailand’s visa exemption scheme.
Under this program, which was expanded in July 2024 to cover 93 countries and territories (including Europeans), you can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism, short-term business, urgent work, or similar purposes.
• Initial stay: Up to 60 days upon arrival (via air or land).
• Extension: You can apply for a one-time extension of an additional 30 days at a Thai Immigration office while in the country. This costs 1,900 THB (approximately $55–60 USD, depending on exchange rates) and is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer.
You have a lot of answers most saying that nothing as changed as of today. Unfortunately that doesn't help you in your planning.
It really depends on how long your visit is going to be. Let me try to summarise.
If you are travelling in the next 7 days it may me too late to do anything so just travel and work things out when you get here.
Visit less than 30 days. Do nothing the proposed change won't affect you.
Visit between 30 and 60 days. You have two options, firstly apply for a single entry tourist visa. If approved you will be given permission to remain for 60 days when you arrive in Thailand. This is regardless of any change to the visa exempt scheme.
Secondly come without a visa and hope the change hasn't been implemented. If it has then you will need to apply for a 30 day extension within Thailand.
Visit between 60 and 90 days. Apply for a tourist visa and extend for 30 days.
Longer than 90 days and you will need to look at one of the many other visa options open to you.
I arrived about 12 days ago. My passport was stamped and I was on my way with no paperwork. I’m assuming I get my 60 days and I have to go to some kind of immigration office for my additional 30 days. Any idea how long in advance, I need to visit the immigration office to apply for my additional 30 days to make it 90?
Jeff Grossman it depends on where you are therefore which immigration office you apply to. Most immigration offices allow you to apply when you have 30 or less days on your current right to remain stamp.
Three major offices that are exemptions are Bangkok and Chaing Mai who allow you to apply either 45 days or less remaining and Chonburi (Jomtien) that only allows you to apply when you have 7 or fewer days remaining.
Anett Miehle I understand that your originally post says you are arriving in Thailand in the next week then it is unlikely to change before Friday. Friday is the day changes to Thai law are normally posted in the Royal Thai Gazette. So changes are unlikely before Friday 27th.
These self appointed experts keep telling me l can not get something l already have and that l need to do something l have no intention of doing in order to get something already obtained that they said l could not get!
Coaches Charlie this happens when a lot of opinionated retired bored people hang out on Facebook. But not all bad! Lots of helpful kind people. Be sure to thank them.
It will happen so be prepared, thialand is going too the bottom of the barrel right now it's just left there, not the time to go just saying. Inflation and liss poor attitude will be there
As of late March 2026, the 60-day visa exemption for many nationalities is still in place. It has not officially changed to 30 days yet, but a reduction is expected soon due to concerns about misuse. Keep an eye on official updates, as the change could be announced shortly.
