Hi everyone. I just opened bankaccount. In the bank nobody asked me about the deposit of 800k or the monthly deposit of 65.000. So can I go for the yearly extension? Thanks for your advice.
Answer summary
The post discusses a user's inquiry regarding the necessity of maintaining 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank account or making monthly deposits of 65,000 Baht for visa extension purposes. Responses clarify that banks do not oversee visa requirements and that the 800,000 Baht needs to be in the account for two full months prior to applying for a yearly extension of stay. Some provided alternative options, such as obtaining an income certificate from the user's embassy, but advised that its acceptance is not guaranteed by immigration authorities.

The bank will not ask you about it, it a your responsibility to do it and then provide it to the IMMIGRATION. When you will renew the immigration officer will check your paperwork and if you don t have the 800k then he will deny you the visa.

You can also provide a proof of pension income if it makes the requirement, but not all countries embassy stamp those certificate, and this will replace the need of the 800k blocked

It's simple really, most banks in Thailand will not open an account for you if you haven't got a 90 day visa, and that from thai embassy,if you travel to Thailand on a tourist visa 30 or 60 day most banks will not let you open an account,if you google this it will explain this to you,Good luck

Mario De Mey OK, deduction time. You just arrived. Since you opened a bank account, one assumes your visa is a Non-O, yes ?

So, with the intent to retire in Thailand, one must also assume you did some homework, especially since you know about the 800K Baht in the account.

Do you also realize a Thai-approved pension, social securty, etc. of 65K Baht every month “forever” can also get you your extension w/o the 800K ?

But if you deposit the 800K into the bank, it still needs to sit there for 2(?) months (<-- I always get that confused) BEFORE you can get your extension. Do you realize that ?
Mario *********

Mario De Mey If you deposit a minimum of THB
*****
.- each month in a Thai Bank account you need to do that for at least 12 months before you can apply using this Method. So not possible for the first Year after getting your Thai Bank account.

You can maybe get a Letter from your Belgian Embassy confirming your Pension payments in Belgium. Since you started Retirement last year in May only you cannot do this right now.

So if you can transfer THB
*****
0.- into your new Thai Bank account then this will be the easiest way for this first Year. After the Money is in your Thai Bank Account you have to wait at least 2 Months before it will be accepted by Immigration.

OP
Alan Rothwell Hi Alan. Indeed I have a Non O visa retirement. I retired in Belgium 1st of May last year. I have bank details I got 65.000Baht every month in Belgium. But will this proof be enough to show the officers of immigration? If yes, can I get already a year extension in the period of 90days when I start to deposit my pension in my Thai account?

To be honest, everybody is talking about "The " officer. I went to immigration to get my papers for the bank in Jomtien. There are 5 officers depending how you were queuing. They are all friendly. Then you get a number and need to que wing again. Whenever this officers agree, you can come back for your paper whitin 3 hours. So it took me about 6 hours to get one paper 😅. I don't mind...I have time.

But about the monthly deposit of my pension, I would like some advice from you. Kind regards Mario

Have you put 800k baht into your bank account yet? That needs to be in the account for 2 full months before you can apply for a 12 month extension of stay.

Theoretically you can also bypass that requirement because you are from Belgium and can get an income certificate from your embassy in Bangkok, but I've heard of instances where this has not been accepted by immigration as the Belgian embassy doesn't authenticate your income, only your signature. You would need to confirm with your immigration office if they will accept such a certificate from the Belgian embassy (specifically).

Generally you need to be down to the last 30 days of your current stamp before applying for an extension

Barath Faust 800.000 baht for two months before you apply or 65.000 baht for 12 months before you apply
John **********
John **********
@Barath ******
it depends. If your embassy will authenticate your income and issue an income certificate you can use that to apply at immigration but many embassies will no longer do that. The only other way to show income is to have 12 calendar months of transfers from overseas of a minimum of 65k baht per month into a Thai bank account in your name immediately prior to going to immigration. You can't use bank statements from a non Thai bank

Mario De Mey Hello Mario, I think you have a very great and regularly asked question of how someone will have 12 month after 60 days. Well I am no ecport but Thai immigration don't spell it out clearly but in this case it is like an unwritten rule, the default is one must have 800,000 baht to show until you can have 12 month on yoir second year extension. I am no export, I am learning too. But essence that is it. Hope it help but I am not sure, immigration

will admit that. Just have the 8000,000k baht.

Lou *********
Bob Haas you think he 65k is in addition to the 800k in your bank account do you? Pretty sure it's either or...also you can do a combo...30k a month, say, plus 500k in the bank...like that
Mario *********

Bob Haas Thanks Bob.

Mario De Mey You must for the first year have 800K baht in your Thai bank account. In addition, transfer each month on or around the same day of the month a minimum of 65K baht into your bank account. When you go to Immigration to extend another year you will need a bank statement showing that you had deposited the minimum 65K each month with no interruption. Once Immigration accepts your bank statement that shows your 65K deposits you are free to use your original 800K.
