Why did Bangkok Bank not provide necessary paperwork for my retirement visa renewal?

I went to Bangkok Bank (Pattaya) to ask them if they could provided the paper necessary to renew my retirement visa. They did not answer that question but they did tell me for 25,000 they could renew the visa... I lucked out because the teller "has a friend".

I went to another visa agent (Pattaya) and they said 14,000. They said Bangkok Bank no longer provides the necessary paperwork

and gave me the address to another bank to open account.
Answer summary
The conversation revolves around the process and costs associated with renewing a retirement visa in Thailand, specifically in Pattaya. The original poster (OP) expresses confusion regarding the necessary paperwork from Bangkok Bank, stating they were quoted a high fee for assistance by a teller who claimed to have a 'friend'. Other community members offer insights, noting that Bangkok Bank typically provides the required bank letter for visa renewal if certain account conditions are met (like maintaining a specified balance). There are varying personal experiences shared, indicating that some individuals have faced difficulties in the process while others have enjoyed smooth interactions with the bank. Additionally, some participants recommend alternative banks and agents in Pattaya, emphasizing the importance of having correct documentation, and suggest that the fees associated with using agents can sometimes be seen as beneficial for convenience.

An I incorrect in thinking OP has either the cash or income requirement, and they are pretty much requesting a bank book update / receipt / certificate for immigration?

That’s dogshit man

Immigration Division 1 for me at least, only needed the Bank letter to certify my balance and my original Bank Book with copies of each page signed by me. Bank letter is 100 baht. Sounds like you really do need an agent to handle the process for you.

Please be advised that Bangkok Bank will freeze the amount of 800,000 or 400,000 baht in your account for a period of four months.

The letter you normally sign to request the certified letter will now serve as your authorization allowing the bank to freeze the funds for four months.

Bangkok bank statement: 100 THB Visa fee: 1900 THB. You ask BKk for a 12 month statement 200bht. It takes 1 week then ask for a letter for immigration 100 bht. Did this and renewed my visa today no problems. Take you documents, bankbook and passport with 2 photos to an agent. I used Thai Assist(Chiang Mai) agent. Fantastic service and reasonably priced. They will give you a time/date when to meet at immigration

Bangkok Bank DEFINITELY provides the BANK LETTER needed as a part of your Extension paperwork and THAT is it.

I go to my local branch of BB the day before I apply for my next Extension and within minutes I've gotten my Bank Letter and updated my bank book and am on my way.

And applying for a new Extension at Immigration costs 1,900 baht.

That is - assuming you actually have the money in the bank and meet all the other requirements for the Extension and aren't trying to scam your way around those requirements.

I earn > 5% having my funds in a managed fund in Australia. I'd earn less than 1% in a Thai bank account. So it would cost me 20,000 baht per year to transfer 500,000bt to a Thai account. Agents charge less.

Until retirement visa allows you to leave your funds where they are, people are going to continue to try to flaunt the requirements.

It's especially baffling now that you can get a DTV which doesn't require you to transfer *anything* in order to get a 5 year visa. You can keep your funds where they are for DTV, and only need to show proof that the funds exist.

Sebastian Barrow Sebastian me the same but my Chinese wife she has had issue after issue.

We transferred most of the money into our yellow bank and red & white bank.

We told the branch manager I wouldn’t accept their racism against my wife being Chinese.

We change everything out rental properties were transferred to our red & white bank.

We use blue bank very rarely now we have it open just as an account and we are considering close the accounts.

I understand that blue bank got scammed by Russians and Chineses but to treat every Chinese or Russian the same that was enough for us.

My wife was profiled and that annoyed the heck out of us.

So bye, bye they lost a fair bit and my wife refuses to even enter the bank at all.
