Your HR department is wrong. If you have an extension based on employment (rather than the initial Non B visa) the reason for the extension stops the moment your work ceases. You’d need to leave that day.

You can organise stuff if your employer agrees so that you can get a letter from them that you’ll be finishing on X date (usually 7 or so days). You go to the labour department to cancel your work permit and then immediately go to immigration to cancel your extension and they’ll give you a stamp to stay until X date.

If that doesn’t happen then when your work permit ceases you go to immigration and apply for an extension - which will be rejected and they’d give you 7 days to leave Thailand. It’s not an automatic thing. You apply and get refused for 1,900 baht but you get your 7 days to leave.

A Non O visa is a non immigrant visa based on “other” reasons - which are many. Perhaps being over 50 or being married to a Thai citizen or having a Thai child, etc.

Generally they are valid for 90 days from issue and will get the person stamped in for 90 days on entry. When the stamp is around 30 days or so left you can apply for a year extension off that visa as long as you fulfil the financial and other requirements to do so.

Requirements vary depending on the reason the visa was issued. For example for a “married to a Thai woman” - many refer to this as a marriage visa, you’d need 400k in a Thai bank in the applicants name, seasoned for 2 months prior to applying for the extension.

Why would you need an extension? Obviously depends on the dates you’re proposing to go to KL but if that’s within 60 days you don’t need an extension

@Richard *******
They have those, but would you want to limit yourself for 73 days with a carry on bag only?

Via the London embassy usually only around 3-5 working days.

Use the evisa system here.

If they’re coming for 73 days I suspect they may need more than carry on luggage.

You may have an issue with your airline who may insist on a ticket out of Thailand within the allowed 60 days. Some insist some don’t seem to care. Immigration almost certainly wouldn’t have an issue. They rarely ask for onward ticket details.

You can’t get an extension right away. You’d need to wait a bit to apply. Some offices allow 45 days prior, most 30 days prior, but some only 7 days or less.

If you were going to go to Singapore then that solves both issues. If you have a ticket there (within 60 days) then the airline will be covered. When you come back from Singapore you’ll get a new 60 day stamp so won’t need an extension anyway.
