For Returning Thai Nationals – My Immigration Appointment Experience (Inheritance Visa for Adoptees / Thai Descent)
I wanted to share my experience with Thai Immigration for those who, like me, are returning Thai nationals — especially adoptees or individuals born in Thailand. This is for those reclaiming Thai citizenship or status.
If you have a Thai birth certificate and also your civil registry form issued by a district office, you may qualify for what's commonly called an "Inheritance Visa" — an extension that is valid for up to one year and renewable. This is a route available to people of Thai descent who are not yet listed in the Thai national registry (tabien baan) or holding a valid Thai ID but are in the process of reclaiming it.
Here’s a summary of my appointment process and some helpful tips:
Where: Immigration Division 1 – 3rd Floor, IT Square, Bangkok
Why: I booked the appointment online under the category for "Returning Thai National Reclaiming Thai Status"
When: I arrived around 8:00 AM for an early spot in the queue
Link to Online Appointment: [members only]
Documents I brought (and what they required):
TM07 form filled out correctly (I will upload a sample for reference)
Copies of my Airbnb receipt + payment history as proof of residence
Copies of my TM30
Copies of entry stamp
Certified translated name change document with MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) stamp
Copies of my Adoption Registration in Thai
Copy of my U.S. passport (bio page)
Most importantly:
Original & copies of my Thai birth certificate ( I had a recently issued copy by the district office)
Original & copies of my civil registry form also issued by the District Office.
Tips from my experience:
They are extremely meticulous about document accuracy and completeness. Be sure your translations are official and certified by MFA or else you'll be asked to provide them in both original form and copy form.
Have extra original copies and multiple photocopies on hand — just in case.
Even though my appointment time had technically expired, they acknowledged my Thai status and gave me a priority queue card, allowing me direct entry to the immigration office.
The longest part of the process was the initial queue, which took about 2 hours, but this is necessary for your documents to be verified before the immigration officer can process your extension.
The process is very manageable if you are organized and respectful, and the staff were professional and helpful once my documents were confirmed.
Hope this helps someone going through the same journey! Feel free to message or comment if you have any questions.
Make sure you have cash only on hand to pay the €1,900 baht extension fee.
NOTE: Depending on your reclamation timeline, you have to report your residence information every 90 days, it can be done online on the immigration website.
I have been trying to fill out the TM30 form as a landlord for our condo with no luck. I have spent hours filling in all the fields with the correct information from our juristic office.
Any suggestions how I can get it completed and has any one else had this problem?
Can I get help at an immigration office, would they go through it with me?
I have the property title deed, blue book and passport.
Hello! We are on our first 20 days of a 60 day tourist visa. We would like to extend it a further 30 days and were wondering which would be the best way:
1. Do it now, while in a vacation rental in Ao Nang, as we leave in 2 weeks for a friend’s empty house in Pattaya.
2. It is fine to wait until Pattaya, staying at a friend’s place versus a rental will not matter much.
3. Just do a visa run instead since it is our first time in Thailand and unlikely to get denied for a single run.
I visited Thailand every 6 months for 1 month stay in last 18 years. Now I am first time applying for the 60 day tourist visa and will try to get extension to stay with my family. I am going to stay in my girlfriend house. My question is, if questioned on immigration on arrival or while applying for extension it is ok to say that I want to stay longer with my family? Or it is better just claim tourist purposes. Thanks
Went into do my 90 day report I arrived in Thailand 16/02/25 I realise it is early which ok to do but they are telling me I don’t have report until 3/08 /25 I’m on a dtv soft visa I went back to query this and got told the same thing by a different officer has anybody else had this issue
Hi All, I'm on a Non O Retirement visa extension out of Chiang Mai. I'm thinking of moving to Pattaya. Can I do my next annual extension down there, or do I have to start afresh with a totally new Visa from there?
For the first 90 day report I know I should go to immigration rather than attempt it online. I need my passport, photocopy of info page, photocopy of visa and tm 47 form. Anything else? Thanks all
I finished my dtv and aprroved, but now need to sign the 90 days. I'm in a difficult situation - I recently moved from Chiang Mai to a new apartment in Lat Phrao, Bangkok, but the landlord refuses to provide his ID. Because of that, I can’t submit the TM30 form and update my address. My visa extension appointment is in the next few days - I urgently need a solution. If anyone has advice or has dealt with something similar - I’d really appreciate your help.
