Should I show my bank passbook at the 3-month mark for my NON-O visa extension in Thailand?

Hello. I was granted an extension of stay on my non o visa at Jomtiem in December, no dramas. Looking at my paperwork today, I noticed a comment from the IO that I should return on the 3 month anniversary date and show my bank passbook, to evidence that 800000 is still in my account. I haven't done this before, is it something I should do or not worry about doing? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
After receiving your extension on a Non-O visa, the immigration officer has requested that you return after three months to present your bank passbook, showing that the required 800,000 baht is still in your account. It's advisable to comply with this request to avoid potential issues with future extensions, as failing to do so may jeopardize your ability to renew your visa.

They told me to do that one time and I did and they looked at it and said OK and I said you don’t wanna picture? No do I get a receipt? No need. That might have changed.

That is the rule for getting the 12 month extension, 800k for 3 months after then not below 400k for the rest of the year. They can ask for it and sometimes do as you have found out probably now to flush out the extensions granted with the aid of agent's funds .

yes that is my plan but I am an Irish passport holder although living all my life in the UK and I’ve been led to believe that the Irish embassy will do an affidavit for my pension income, I know that the UK Embassy will not, if they would I would reapply for my uk passport which expired recently I will find out for 100% sure when I return to the UK about the affairs with the Irish embassy

yes but during the first extension you must keep 800k for three months then not less than 400k for the rest of the year as they were part of the conditions that apply to the first extension so, effectively, you have to meet two sets of requirements to switch

no I’m on holiday in Thailand at the moment up north with my girlfriend, I’ve tried to open a bank account with the visa 60 day exemp but they will not let me do it so I’ll be doing the 90 day non-oh at the end of the year, then open an account

So you'll be getting your initial Non-O from outside Thailand then get your bank accound and funds seasoned for your first extension (assuming your Embassy does not do the income affidavit)

isn't it so nice you let them borrow your money for half a year with any use of it or any interest.

I know the rule thanks and I strictly adhere to it. Just something the IO didn't draw my attention to, either this time, or the year before.

As I said it's rarely asked for but now maybe it will become more common. Just do a small deposit or withdrawal on the day and update your bank book.

If they have told you to do this then please do it. If you don’t then the possibility of not getting your next year extension could be high or absolute. I believe it’s an office specific regulation and possibly only Jomtien that requires it.

thanks. I looked through my records for the previous year and I overlooked it then. Luckily, I received my non o extension ok but I'll take your advice. Trying to avoid another day in immigration paradise.

Hey it’s fun down there. You get to hang out with the crowds and see what it’s like to be living in that area. Where else can you get that experience. Embrace it….

I know nothing of Pattaya but I suspect you’re referring to a similar Soi we have here in Phuket - Soi Bangla. That’s where the real experience of Phuket awaits all who visit. You get the true ambience of what it’s like to holiday in Thailand in all its glory. Or perhaps the opposite.

I just was in Pattaya (I live in Phuket). Bangla is „kindergarten“ compared to Pattayas walking street. 😉
