HCMC used to do the 1year multiple entry visa without the financial requirements.

Sounds like you didn't enter with a visa but with visa exempt (first 30 days). Rules stipulate that before being eligible for the covid extension (max 60 days) you must first use the normal 30 days extension available to you (second 30 days). Once you have used the initial extension (30 days) you may then APPLY for an extension of stay due to being unable to travel (up to 60 days). In most immigration offices (if not all by now) your application goes under consideration for a period of between 15 and 30 days. Once that under consideration period comes to an end, you return to the same immigration office and have the remainder added to your passport (45 days or 30 days as may be the case). Your research is flawed. The immigration officers have done you a big favor. When you return to get the remainder of your stay inked in, you may want to bring some doughnuts by way of an apology.

if you're in your home country, consider getting the multiple Entry Tourist Visa. You can exit and enter all you want. Stamped in for 60 days (extendable) each entry.

Well, 30th is a Sunday and the 1st is a Public holiday. If you're not planning on coming back to Thailand I'd just go. When do you plan on cancelling your wp?

You can work in other provinces as long as your company has a bonafide connection in that province. So, if your company is registered in Phang Nga, you can work in Phuket if your Phuket branch is added to your DbD registration. Talk to your accountant and they can sort it. As for the second part of your question, then no. There is no leniency. You either have a wp or you don't, again, talk to your accountant about this.

Samui and KPNG are probably the easier options. They were giving the 60 days straight up ( no consideration period) I don't know if that has changed though.

I have no experience of the e-visa system so can't add anything of value. Maybe using a VPN can make it work. I think the sand in the Vaseline is the requirement of a flight ticket originating from the home country.
