TLDR : Answer Summary
Phuket is experiencing a mass shortage of blood due to an increase in accidents involving foreigners. The Thai Immigration Bureau, in collaboration with the Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Phuket, is organizing a blood donation event on June 29, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Floresta mini Convention Hall in Central Phuket. Participants are advised to bring their ID cards, wear masks, eat a full meal, and stay hydrated before donating. There is a special note about blood donation rules regarding residency in the UK during the 1980s, as some may be disqualified.
Sadly the Red Cross (except in Bangkok) won’t accept blood if you’ve lived in the UK during the 80’s. There’s some mythical reasoning that you may have contracted mad cow disease some 40+ years ago.
Stuart....the CJD fiasco (Mad Cow Disease) is no longer a barrier to giving blood in Thailand. The news is slowly cascading across all sectors. And hopefully the questions on the consent form will be removed.
