not correct! You have 3 months to get inside the country after visa has been approved! Then you are free to leave and come back when you want until the dtv is valid!

How straightforward is it to obtain health insurance with a DTV visa in Thailand, and what are the best providers?

you're right! Usually, but not always.. I advise to get a travel insurance for 1 year and renew it each here, for 500 euros you are covered for 10k euro.... same insurance with some broker advised would be 1k!
