Why did I only receive 90 days at the Poipet border crossing instead of 180 days?

Returned yesterday from Cambodja at Poipet border crossing.

Imigration officer gave me 90 days and not 180 days , even after I told it was 180. Some still need to get used to DTV.

No problem for the rest. And i leave Thailand again in 30 days , so has no influence.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler returning from Cambodia at the Poipet border received a 90-day entry stamp instead of the expected 180-day stamp, despite mentioning it to the immigration officer. Comments from the community suggest that Poipet is notorious for such issues, with many advising to avoid this border due to the unpredictable behavior of immigration officers. Some suggest diplomatic approaches when dealing with immigration and recommend visiting local immigration offices for any necessary adjustments if a longer stay is desired.

Whatever possessed you to use that border! It's well known as the one to avoid for everything!
Dave ********
Avoid Poipet border like the plague! Good thing you're leaving anyway, but I wonder if the next IO will notice when you return and do the same thing?
Maurice **********
I always go over the border by Pailin. Much easier.

Visit the local immigration office wherever you’re heading and they will fix it for you in case you do decide to stay over 90 days

Worst border ever, should advoid it!

This border is well-known for that kind of behavior. It's interesting to see that immigration officers always have the final say on the length of your stay whatever you would tell them.

Anonymous participant 349 was it even questioned . I would have asked for a senior officer. The visa is 180 days not 90 days
Anonymous ******************
@David *******
It remains at officer's discretion even though the common practice is to give 180 days as you say.
David ********
Anonymous participant 349 the visa is 180 days that is not at an officers discrection it has been granted by FMO the officer cannot just stamp what he wants. As I said you need to challenge that with a senior immagration officer. You have rights you have applied paid and been granted the visa. What is the reason why you will not stamp me. This is the issue when people don't know what there visa conditions are and what they have as in terms of rights

Never crossed land border before. Just curious how’s Poipet checkpoint? Like is it crowded with just a few old computers? 😁

ORIGINAL POSTER
Anonieme deelnemer 494 exit Cambodja was 5 minutes . Thai immigration about 2 hours. Halfway I counted 180 people in front of me , so must have been 350 in the room. 6 officers , but lunch time so 3 left. For 1 hour only 3 boots open.

Anonymous participant 494 AVOID POIPET BORDER CROSSING. IT'S NOT WISE TO USE IT.

Anonymous participant 494 probably the strictest land border crossing in Thailand

Anonymous participant 494 I crossed on the way to Siem Reap in 2002 and said never again. It was like I imagined the Wild West to be. :-). I did not have to pay any tea money either side but it was pressed for. My Thai friend had to or she was not getting into Cambodia. As for DTV apart from this story there was a post in this group a few months ago where the holder could not enter at Poipet. They were sent back to SR for a flight.

Poipet border has been notorious for decades and one to avoid for any entry.

Gregy Bewick I agree with you! An agency near that border asked me 10k for a visa run, I just said, thanks and I got a fly back for my home country the next day, and I got dtv in 48 h without any agency for the same price. I would say thanks to that smart agent, I was too lazy to go back, but he gave me the right motivation.

Diplomacy is the way to go. Tell an IO they made a mistake and it all goes wrong. Best to somehow turn it around and blame yourself... like I'm so sorry I am stupid I didn't tell you about my 180 day DTV.

Worst border ever
