Passport place of issuance

I have a French passport that was issued by a French embassy outside of France.

What shall I put as place of issuance?

I have read that some people put the country of origin and others put the embassy from which they received their passport. Really confusing đŸ€Ż

TLDR : Answer Summary
The confusion regarding what to enter as the place of issuance on a French passport issued by a foreign embassy is common among expats. Comments suggest that the best approach is to follow what is stated on the passport itself, whether it be the embassy's name or the city and country where it was issued. There is a consensus that matching the details exactly as they appear on the passport is crucial for visa applications, as discrepancies might lead to rejections.

always put exactly what is written in the passport. same as name, dates, etc
it is a 1:1 check. no need to make things up or even think about putting something else

I'm French and have the same and put the exact location exactly as it's written on my passport (in my case "Ambassade de France en Corée"). Got the DTV back in April
Paul *******
Very easy....whatever it says underneath the issuing authority.

have the same problem (my passport says "authority" instead of "place of issue") and after searching the group still don't have a clear answer. it's a mix of writing the country or writing exactly what it says under authority. but looks like some people who did the latter got rejected. so seems just like a lot of other things with this application, depends on the embassy. super annoying

Anonymer Teilnehmer 595 it always is what is written in your passport. 1:1 copy.

@Dany *******
as i stated, some people reported getting rejected even when they copied what's in their passport.

Anonymer Teilnehmer 595 most likely a different reason for rejection.

Anonymous participant 595 Exactly. There seems to be no definite answer. Seems for a few people writing the Embassy worked, while for others the country of origin worked...

Copy and paste what the passport says.

Same situation, I placed the name of the embassy as it is stated on my passport. Just write the same sentence, and attach all passport pages. They just look everything match, doesn't matter what is written lol, it must be the same.

exactly. Just copy and paste wherever name, numbers or symbols originally written there.

Put french state department. That signifies it was issued outside of France, and should basically say that on where it was issued.

What does your passport say exactly under place of issue?

That's the issue (no pun intended).

Instead of place of issue, it reads "Authority". Under it, it is "Embassy of France of...".

What's tricky: The passport is for sure issued in France but delivered by the embassy in question. This is why I am confused and potentially confusing for the Thai Authorities.
