Open Thai Bank account

Back in the good old pre-digital everything days I've had bank accounts with Thai Farmer and Bangkok bank, both not a bother. Ì returned couple times last year after 6 years absence due to covid and subsequent price increases, met a sweetheart in March last year and we rented an apartment and spent 5 months together in total, returned Feb this year, got married in March, now I'm busted flat back in Blighty but no wukas I got some bikes to sell but it may be quite a while before I have the dinero to get back but never mind.

What I want to determine is when I come on the 90 Non 'O' and go to open a bank account which as yet ì haven't decided which one but Bangkok's out because they screwed me before, but what's all this shit about showing a Brit driver's license? I didn't renew back in February because of failing eyesight so don't ride/drive anymore, in Thailand I ride pillion on back of the Missus and fight a losing battle trying to educate her how to ride to live lol 😆

I do still keep my expired license just for ID but no way will be applying for a Thai one. Appreciate any info 👍

Have any retirees with Non-O visa recently encountered any other cases of your Bangkok bank freezing your account? They require you to submit proof of address from your home embassy; lease agreements are generally not accepted.

I just found out something yesterday. You have to report to immigration where your staying even on a 30 day holiday.

If you stay at a resort all the time then the hotel records your stay so dont have to do anything. But if like me I'm staying at our home the landlord or my wife has to give you a TM30 or register that your staying there.

Hi all

In respect of the retirement Visa

My partner and I both have the 800,000 thb needed for the retirement visa.

If needed we could just leave it in permanently- that’s not a problem and if we have to do that we will.

My questions

1/ does the money gain interest like it does in uk?

2/ do we need a bank account each or can we have 1 bank account with 2 x 800,000 thb in ?

3/ i understand that the money has to be in 3 months before and for 1 month after the visa - are there any rules that don’t allow transferring the 800, 000 thb back to a UK High interest account ?

That money could earn approx £800 a year x2 - £1600 - better in our pocket I guess.

4/ am I right in thinking every 6 months you have to report ? If so, what does this entail and cost? and will that 800.000 thb need to be back in the account before reporting ? If so how long before and after ?

- I guess this may answer question 3 , as if it needs to be in the bank there would be little point in shifting it backwards and forwards.

5/ in addition to the 800,000 thb in the Thai bank , as a couple ( not each ) we would have around 94,000 thb per month coming in ( so nowhere near enough to get the retirement visa on monthly income alone , which I gather is 65,000 thb each .

Based on the figure of 94,000 thb - what could we reduce the 800,000 thb in the bank down to ? I believe it can be a mix or deposit and income

Thank you

If l get the 90 day retirement O visa in UK, use it to open bank account but don’t apply for one year extension and leave before 90 days. Can one do that and is it acceptable to immigration?

Hi, I’d like to share my first experience of getting my stay extended on Non-O visa here.

The instruction sheet says rather simply : copy of 2 pages of the passport、proof of 800k baht in a Thai bank.

On the application form : photo 、TM6 (the digital arrival card) are also required.

Other than everything mentioned above, I also brought in :

printed E-Visa,

printed digital arrival card,

TM30,

housing contract,

landlord’s ID, as the owner of the condo,

blue book, the house deed,

bank passbook with the latest update,

the official statement from my Thai bank with the stamp from the bank.

( K-Bank charges 100 baht for that )

However, I was still asked to return on the next day for :

the official letter from my Thai bank,

( again, 100 baht for that )

and again, bank passbook with an update on that same day.

drawing of a simple map to show what roads、landmarks are nearby.

Because of that, I overstayed for one day, there is no grace period and I paid 500 baht for that.

Either at the immigration office or at major airports, you will need to pay 1,000 baht for single return entry, or 3,800 baht for multiple entries.

Even though no written instructions show all documents mentioned above are required, they took in all !

I’m glad it’s taken care of, the staff was helpful、I didn’t have to leave the country for overstay、didn’t need an agent because I want to see how things process. 😃

What a relief, now I can travel to other countries at will and hence today, I bought this cute mug from IKEA for my celebration. ☕️🎉

~PS. Brandon, how many times can an expat extend his stay on Non-O !? 🤔🙏🏻

I bought a BTS day pass until midnight ; but could only use it on the dark green、light green lines. ( pink line to the Government Complex stop isn’t included )

Hi,

My wife and I have a non o visa extension based on over 50 and retired, we each have a bank account with Bangkok Bank and each with a minimum of 800,000 Baht in,

I asked the question at Lamphun immigration today, that because of my concern in case anything happens to either of us would it be possible have the combined funds in one account in both names, the answer was yes as long as the two accounts were transferred into the joint account on the same day,

the answer was verbal so nothing in writing,

My question is has anyone else done this and can confirm it is correct?

TIA Paul.

Coming across more than a few establishments that do not accept credit cards. Only PromptPay and Other Apps like that. But what ones can foreigners actually use?
