Hello, I'm currently on a METV and was planning on applying for DTV next week, I've read many posts on this subject, and there seems to be division on the matter, some say that once DTV is issued then that automatically cancels TR and that what happened to them, some say that they were told by embassy to reapply after METV expires.
I went to 3 banks and asked because I am thinking of switching from Retirement to DTV. Bangkok, K and TSB. Here is what I was told.
1. You can't get a new bank account on a tourist Visa, unless you have property here (and/or a Pink Card), or are married to a Thai
2. Any Bank accounts already open, will not be closed just because you change to a tourist Visa, (Your history of time is evidence you are not a new account for illegal activities)
3. No effort is being made to investigate and close any accounts that do not look suspicious (many multi millions of baht transactions, new accounts not being used etc)
Hope that helps
Caveats:
1) If you are Russian or Chinese then you will face more issues as your countrymen are the majority of the high publicly for fraud that started all this.
2) If you got a Bank account on a tourist Visa before 6 months ago .. Things have changed your experience has no relationship to today situation
Hey guys so Im trying to understand DTV better because I've spoken to 10 different agents/agencies in the last two weeks and have had almost completely different answers everytime
* Different prices
* Different requirements
* Different time frames
* Different counties id need to go
* Different finances
* Some require meetings some don't
* Some require 500k some dont
So what should I actually know and who should I actually talk too?
I would like some advice. My wife is Thai and I’m an American. We plan to come Thailand in July and stay about 4 months. During that time, we will probably take a trip outside Thailand (maybe Laos, Viet Nam or the Philippines). My question is do I need to get a visa or just use the 60 day exemption and depend on the extensions that are available.
In addition to the normal 60 day extension, can I get a family extensions as I have in the past?
