I'd suggest also posting in Canadians in Thailand | Canadiens en Thaïlande . There are loads of tax and legal issues so I'd also suggest you talk to a lawyer in Thailand.

ststing wh you are from would help. Some companies only work with certain countries so recommending a company in Canada might not work if you are from Australia. Many insurance companies will allow you to buy while already on holiday but impose a 48 hour waiting period. Read the wordings for companies that insure people from where you are from and see. Safety Wing deals with the majority of countries but the limit is low, worth checking out.

METV = multiple entry tourist visa. SETV = Single entry tourist visa. As others have mentioned, the METV is overkill for 4 months.

as mentioned, they give you a slip and you go back the next day. Just confirm with them before you leave, really nice and friendly staff.

we just did this in March, it's easy. To get a tourist visa in KL you need to make an appointment online, they open up about 14 days prior so keep that in mind. The Embassy has the list of requirements on their site so take look at that to ensure you have everything prepared.

When you go to the embassy you have to show your QR code and ID, get entry, wait in line. Once you get called up, the staff go through your paperwork, ask for missing documents and such, take payment and give you a pickup receipt. You go back the next afternoon and show the receipt and collect your passport. Check the sticker before you leave to ensure it's correct.

also Canadian and would suggest you follow this. Difference is as Canadians you don't need to put the $ in a Thai bank, you can still get income verification from the Canadian embassy or consulate to bring to immigration. We both got 90 day Non O while in Canada, when we did our first extension went to the consulate, got them to verify income and married status. Went to immigration and got a retirement extension for my husband and trailing spouse for me. The other option is the LTR - wealthy pensioners if your income qualifies for it. You can DM me if you want more info.

you could get in touch with the agent who sponsors or owns this group. They would be able to let you know what you chances are and if they can assist with entry.

As Canadian you don't need to do the transfer of money to a local bank as you can still get an affidavit of income from the embassy in BKK or consulate in Chiang Mai. Suggest both you and your wife enter on Non O 90 day before you leave Canada. When here one of you get the retirement extension with the affidavit and the other get a trailing spouse. You will also need the consulate to verify you marriage certificate. Fairly easy. You can also get a multi re-entry at the same. Just be in Thailand for you next renewal

if you want to leave the $$ in Canada get the affidavit of income. The Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai is very responsive to emails so they can advise what you need to complete this.

did you have any trouble with the verification code for the appointment? The system wouldn't accept our Canadian or Australian numbers. We ended up having to use a friend's number in Thailand. We were told that they give you the appointment slip for pick up when you are finished the drop off. Is this correct or did you need to make a seperate appointment? Thanks!
