I'm from England, been in and out of Thailand for last ten years, ended up with a few 20k fines for overstay and most recently one year ban for long overstay. My question. I intend to come back at the end of my ban August this year; I'm aware everything is computerised now so they will know I've had a ban and had a few overstays that I paid 20k for over the last decade. Would you guys advice getting a new passport pre entry in England to avoid any potential questions when they flick through and perhaps see the overstays etc, or as everything is digital would you not worry about it? Thanks and current UK passport expires 2029.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat with a history of overstays and a one-year ban from Thailand seeks advice on whether obtaining a new passport could help avoid issues upon re-entry. Users agree that a new passport may not significantly change the situation, as Thai immigration has access to digital records that include past violations. They advise getting a tourist visa before attempting to enter Thailand, ensuring that necessary documentation such as proof of accommodation and return ticket is ready. The community expresses mixed opinions, with some recommending against attempting to return to Thailand due to stricter current immigration policies.
why you overstay, consistently?? Why you cannot renew your visa in time like normal people do? If you cannot do that stay away as you give us normal foreigners a bad name resulting in more hassles to enter the country in the future. Sorry I have no patience with such assholes.
New passport means nothing. They have all the data, in your case you have done your time they have no reason to keep you out.......had friends with worse records and they encountered no problems.....you will be fine

Try Russia. I believe they have plenty of free accommodation in a place called Siberia š¤£š¤£š¤£

With your having such little respect for Thai Immigration Law,
With multiple 20k fines, your probably on a list, and new passport is old trick...try Granada..
Christopher *************
Let us hope that for you, somebody who is acting like breaking their laws is something to be proud of, get a new passport, goes about doing their thing their way and arriving at immigration with a spanking new passport gets denied entry because some law abiding person on this site has tipped off Immigation.
Neale **********
Has anyone asked the question why people don't just abide by the law and pay the fees instead of getting fined and banned?
Yes, you're in the Data bank, get a grip mate, you're a guest, be polite and leave as stipulated, it's not rocket science.
Ron ******************
Fly to KL and enter through the southern land border by train. If they refuse you entry you just walk back to the Malay side. If you fly in you could be sent back home and you will be detained until you have flight out.
yes and hopefully the extremists on that border catch up with him

Why overstay, rules are there to follow...

Get a visa first in UK and even that don't guarantee entry, immigration can still turn you back if they see fit.

Look forward to you getting rejected at the immigration make sure you post about it so I can laugh at you. People like you make foreigners look bad.

A lot depends on who is working at the airport that day.
Some will let you in, some wonāt.
I have never overstayed because i want a clean slate
Technology is getting sharp

A pertinent question is *why* you overstayed so many, many, many times?
I got a 20K Baht overstay in 2015 which was 100% my own fault. What happened was I confused the "report your address by" date with the visa expiry date. Since then I have learned from that mistake.
I also got one in 2018 which was *not* my fault; the agency I was an employee of as a teacher cancelled several employees' work permits without telling us, thus invalidating our reasons for extension and causing us to be on overstay without our knowledge.
How did you not learn from the first, or at least the second one? You say you've had "a few" 20K overstays, which implies it was more than two. To get a one year ban means you then went on to overstay by more than *90* days.
Like.....how?

Just apply for a 60 day TV that can be extended for another 30 days from the Thailand embassy London (you do it all on line) then you will have no problem entering Thailand, š¤
After which you can change your Visa in Thailand š¤ good luck

I'd certainly suggest getting some common sense first. What on earth were you thinking overstaying to the point of getting a 1 year ban. You do realise it's people like you who make it tougher for people who play by the rules
Neville ********
So you have overstayed multi times so you will have to see when you get there

Try entering through Chiangmai, itās not so strict apparently. Oh and donāt forget to smile at the Immigration Officer š

So if I understand right you payed the penalty of 20.000 baht when you leave last time the country and they ban you for 1 year what ends in august 2024.
Okay
So when they took the money put stamp with ban for 1 year in side ? Than you can come after ban time is finished.
Of corse they will hold on there on deal. Right ?

Joining the rest saying that there are too many foreigners acting badly here already, and you are making life harder for those of us who do follow the rules.
If you won't follow the rules here please stay home.š¤·

This is really like the Thai Visa Forum from 20 years ago. Filled with a bunch of sad old men yelling follow the rules, suffer the consequences, donāt come back. Depressing.
well said. While I've only been to Thailand once and did things right, I have plans to retire to Thailand and don't want that made even more difficult or impossible because of guys that cannot stop sliding their hands down the front of their pants!
you could get in touch with the agent who sponsors or owns this group. They would be able to let you know what you chances are and if they can assist with entry.

Go Cambodia, Myanmar or Vietnam. Whatever Thailand can offer you, they have it cheaper
Maybe not Myanmar, where the money you spend there is funding an active genocide.

Looks like you love to overstay and abuse the system with your latest ban ,doesn't matter how much passports you have ,your name is blacklisted in the system ,better to Just change the country you are going to to save any hassle when you arrive and maybe the disappointment of being denied entry into Thailand

Well think like this . If you invited someone into your home for dinner on multiple occasions and he NEVER leaves once the dinner is over , would you be so willing to invite him again ? š¤£š¤£š¤£

my suggestion is this, go to Vientiane, Laos stay there for at least 1 month and cross to Thailand border if they denie you of entry at least less hassle right, compared flying from UK to Thailand and then denie of entry at the airport. If ever they denie you of entry, then proceed with your backup plan. Additionally, bring your OS penalty receipt with you (if you kept it) as your proof just incase if IO asks you about your OS. You should not be worry too much, and to be honest Thailand show more leniency to foreigners as long we dont cause trouble.

everything is in the system,,,,

If you cannot obey the immigration laws please stay home.

My advice is don't come. You don't have any respect for the laws of the country. Stay away.
David **********
New passport lol you obviously do not understand how these things work at all as proven by your track record. They may refuse you entry altogether.
new passport can't do any harm. You know the whole "no comment..." when in a police interview, this is like the immigration equivalent. Why would you give them a passport showing your ban AND multiple overstays. You're doing their job for them. At least try and conceal what you can. You think the immigration IT systems are 100% uptime, backed up + restored, upgraded and upgraded again, and untrained staff and power cuts and data loss.
But fella needs to get his act together either way.

They are getting tougher on those who break the rules now and you have put yourself into that category and will come under a lot of scrutiny. Really bad idea.
Ron *********
No, but it sounds like when you are there you spend a lot of time there. So I would get visas even when you do border runs.
I did a 1 year suspension and came back without a visa. They stamped me at suv but when I did a border run to jakarta and came back at Muang they held me for an hour and the guy was screaming at me you never get a visa, don't ever come here again without a visa which I have adhered to.
Harry *********
It's you that's on the system not a piece of paper that can be thrown away. Advice, don't overstay. All you can do now is apply for a visa that is LONG ENOUGH for you to stay and then have a flight booked leaving before the date you are meant to leave. There's companies like kiwi that allow you to pay more and get a refund minus Ā£10-Ā£15 admin fee. That being said, don't overstay again š¤£ waste of money, it's cheaper to do a visa run and also more respectful.
they might have taken photos previously, but what they did with them, who knows, but it wasn't Biometrics based. Maybe just for show, to scare people from trying their luck if banned etc. But Biometrics was rolled out in 2021 onwards. They didn't have mine on my last entry Dec 2019, but they got me on my exit May 2022. I could see on the system there was no previous record of me on the Biometrics.
dude, you need to chill. He never asked for sympathy. He was honest about his past issues and was looking for guidance. If you don't want to contribute, just move along. No need to go nuclear.
mate, people who abuse the system eventually fuck it for everyone. But thanks for the advice, I'm impressed getting CHILL, NUCLEAR into an answer šš
canāt you take your mother to look after you ? why the f**k a 20k fine ? a week over maybe, but youāre taking the piss ā¦ get a grip, we Brits seem to have a bad enough name anyway & you"re a serial dumb arse airing this
for the benefit of the 'many' who do the right thing, though I'm not in the habit of doing so, I think that a rant directed towards someone who is clearly, by his own words, is deserved. Why should people like the OP be allowed to 'continue in their ways' and spoil things for the majority who do the right thing?!
so you was never young and stupid Iāve been coming backwards and forwards for 20 years now had a big overstay once you do the crime you pay your time simple as that he will be fine coming back in because Thailand is all about money š¤·āāļøšsimple as that
i've acted stupid numerous times but always been in control of the consequences, that seems to be the big difference between us ... you also don't need to be young to be stupid either, it's a bigger spectrum
haha, nowhere near 70yrs old you muppet. Obviously you never went to school . Have you always been so thick? Typical Northerner with an embarrassing name.

With your record I would fly to a nearby country first (Cambodia or Vietnam), stay there then fly to Thailand. If you are refused entry because your blacklisting is still in the system (this can happen) you will then just be returned to your last location, not the UK. If you are not denied entry then you know for sure that you are clear.

You break the law, suffer the consequences. Who's to say you won't do it again? Irresponsible much?

a new passport doesn't change anything. As soon as they input your name and birthdate, the flag goes up

You be right what's the worst that can happen they don't let you in and you Go to Cambodia
If denied entry, and you're lucky, they will give you the option of flying out to a country of your choice.
If you're unlucky, they'll insist you go back to where you just came from. If you're *very* unlucky, you'll be forced to return to your *passport origin* country.
You cant get a 'sticker visa' in the UK. They use the evisa system

Changing passwords won't make any difference. In my view With multiple overstay like this you'll be lucky to get in the door so I'd have an alternative lined up
except he has multiple overstays so I'd expect him to be treated differently in the current climate. Not that I've any experience of overstay but things have changed in the last year or two
Obviously, they very much *can* see your entire history with a scan and a click of a button, across all passports past and present.
However, they won't *necessarily* do that check, like if they've had a long day, are about to come off shift, theres a very long line etc. So getting a new passport isn't *completely* without advantages.
That said, the days of being able to get a 100% pristine new slate with a new passport are very much over, and if they *do* make that check..... well, be prepared for a long chat in the back room, and potentially a denial of entry.
did a visa run and took the opportunity to go to Vang Vieng for a few days. Laos felt like what Thailand might have been like 20 years ago.

I recommend you donāt come. Thai immigration laws have become stricter, penalizing those of us who abide by the rules, all thanks to individuals who habitually overstay their visas. It's disgraceful.
who cares? Lots of reasons people overstay. There is a massive overstay office to pay your fines in BKK after immigration. Do the crime, pay the fine and enjoy. No problem coming back in either if no 'ban' occurs
I know that you provide a lot of great advice, but this isn't one of those occasions. Although there's lots of reasons for overstays, there can't be for 'habitual' overstaying, which according to the OP's words IS. Sure, one can be 'caught out' maybe getting a date wrong, such as when forgetting the date in the passport stating the last day of stay IS, or losing track of time while enjoying the holiday so much. This though, what the OP has stated can't be that. I totally agree with Mac Gt!! By your words, it seems to me that you're encouraging habitual overstaying and therefore making things harder for those who do the right thing.
Iām not encouraging overstay one bit. In a perfect world, nobody overstays. And everyone goes home happy. What I am doing, is trying (sometimes losing, sometimes gaining š¤·āāļø) to have a pragmatic approach to what is actually occurring as opposed to the dire āsuspended for lifeā or going to jailā or ādenied entry everywhereā clowns who persist on showing up here. There tales are not a reflection of how actual overstay cases are being handled.
And I canāt say I see any evidence whatsoever that suggests overstays are creating any hardship whatsoever for anyone other than themselves. Overstays occur in every nation with remarkable frequency. Human nature. You and I both know people who push the speed limit and who donāt wear helmets. Lawbreakers. But they understand the consequences of their actions and pay the price. Then life goes on
we'll have to agree to disagree about "encouraging", because you said "Do the crime, pay the fine and enjoy". At the same time, you didn't encourage the OP 'clean up his act',or 'refrain' from overstaying in future. How about 'do the crime, pay the fine and don't do it again and it'll be better for you and others'? End of conversation as far as I'm concerned. While feeling that I needed to say something, I'm not one to get into arguments or slanging matches. Have a good day Todd and I must say that I look forward to hopefully have a future of living in Thailand, I appreciate all the good advice you put out there.
yes thatās what I said - because that is PRECISELY the reality. Do the crime, pay the fine and life goes on.
Disagree all u wish. Changes nothing about how the cases are actually being handled. It is of no relevance whatsoever to others, and affects only the individual. How many nations overstay offices have you seen? Been inside the huge overstay fine area in BKK? It is actually worthwhile to actually understand what happens in Thailand and elsewhere. It helps one manage situations abroad as they arise. Up to you. Cheers
well if you've never been asked, then it can't be true. Or at least you've not gone as far as to deny that very true fact, based on soley your experience. But yes, I can categorically confirm that immigration 'can' and sometimes 'do', but 'not always', ask you for the 'three proofs' of 20,000 baht or equivalent in cash, proof of accommodation booking, and proof of onward travel before visa expiry, and they can refuse you on any of these. That you haven't been asked, says that you must appear to thai immigration as a genuine tourist and give no reason for questioning, but those they don't like the look of, can be asked, and refused. It is written and printed and displayed in many immigration offices and check points.
is correct as well as the others comments. When you apply for a 60 day tourist visa and is approved or disapproved, then you will know if you can return to Thailand. Of course, get a refundable air ticket and hotel accommodation so it can be refunded if you are disapproved. This would be a better option than just showing up on a 30 day visa exemption and then get denied entry. Good luck. We will all be rooting for you.
"We will all be rooting for you"... So I assume that you support wrongdoing? Or do you mean 'rooting' his Thai ladyfriend? I'd only consider that latter š¤£ I'd suggest that the OP stay out of Thailand for several years until Thai authorities have had time to 'forgive' his indiscretions.
depends on when he last exited and the particular border point he went from. Biometrics only rolled out in 2021. Some border points received the technology, and training before others. And didn't immigration 'lose' the names of 4000 of the most wanted criminals across Asia, and leak the news of this, allowing them to enter Thailand with their own passports.......
only 2-3 years ago, it rolled out from 2021. There is a sea border point between langkawi and koh lipe and if on that same ferry, you leave your passport with the ferry staff on boarding, and they do the immigration process, and hand you back a passport when docking at Koh Lipe.
there's other great places to go. Laos,Cambodia, Vietnam.
you can get a free entry into Vietnam if you from UK or other European countries ,there's a place there you could live for 20dollars a day , including a very good hotel . then just pop back for free 30 day visa .could push your luck and ask for a longer visa??
