Hi all. I want to spend 6 months in Thailand from Canada. I plan to enter Thailand with a single entry visa (60 days) and extend it for 30 days. After that, I exit Thailand to Kuala Lumpur. How easy and how long does it takes to apply and get a new tourist single entry at the Thai embassy in KL?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to enter Thailand with a single entry tourist visa, extend their stay, and then apply for a new visa at the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur. The responses indicate that it generally requires an appointment to apply for the visa, which can be booked online. The processing time is typically a couple of days, but applicants should allow up to two weeks if there are holidays. Suggestions include considering a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows for an extended stay with easier visa runs, although it has higher financial requirements.

we just did this in March, it's easy. To get a tourist visa in KL you need to make an appointment online, they open up about 14 days prior so keep that in mind. The Embassy has the list of requirements on their site so take look at that to ensure you have everything prepared.

When you go to the embassy you have to show your QR code and ID, get entry, wait in line. Once you get called up, the staff go through your paperwork, ask for missing documents and such, take payment and give you a pickup receipt. You go back the next afternoon and show the receipt and collect your passport. Check the sticker before you leave to ensure it's correct.

as mentioned, they give you a slip and you go back the next day. Just confirm with them before you leave, really nice and friendly staff.

Border bounce is easier like what we are doing now. Been here since Nov and did 2 border runs, 2 visa run, and just 1 more visa run and 1 exit flight to KL..so far so good..from Canada as well

A METV does require a higher bank balance history to qualify. If don’t have savings then stick to your plan

200K baht vs 20K baht in six months.

Get METV visa back home...

I agree with Chris. Two tourist visa should be possible if you don’t have any recent history travelling in and out of Thailand, but instead of travelling back to back on two tourist visas, I personally would prefer a tourist visa with multiple entries. Then you’ll cover your whole stay in one simple visa. It might be a bit more expensive than two single entries visa, but anyway. And you don’t need to use time to apply for a second visa in KL. These are the general requirements at the Thai Embassy in Ottawa.

And this is the general requirements for a single tourist visa at the embassy in KL.

@Aaron ******
How long does it take . I will rent a Condo from Dec1st to Jan31st

Simple and ez online process. Takes up to 2 weeks, longer if a Thai or USA holiday. So give yourself 3 - 4 weeks. Costs were about $40.00.

Normally just a couple of days. You’ll need to upload your tickets and proof of accommodation.

you’ll get red carded and fined 500 baht / day

@Derek ********
That’s not bad . Cheaper than paying a Taxi from Pattaya and a Flight to Cambodia and Back

right, the fee won’t break the bank but we are here suggesting not to break the law.

breakIng the rules deliberately is not smart. Just get your extension. If you don't, then if stopped by police whilst on overstay it won't end well. But that would serve you right.
Jan ******************
@Kevin *********
Overstay it’s not recommended if you plan to go back to Thailand later. You’re entitled to a 30 days visa exemption or free stamp upon arrival. This can easily be extended with additional 30 days at your local immigration at 1900 baht. 30 days overstay could potentially give consequences beyond a

baht fee at the airport. An agent will extend your extension without any issues for you for 4000 baht including fee and everything.

Maybe consider an METV multi-entry tourist visa good for 6 months.

60 days on entry and 1x 30 day extension in country,

With a border bounce 6 months is easy.

With planning could get almost 9 months out of it.
Kevin ******
@Chris ******
that’s right, almost 9 months if planned.

KL require a booked appointment time. Download their requirement form. Fill it out and book an appointment. You won’t get in the door without it.

The embassy website will have both the requirements and how long it will take to apply for a tourist visa.
