Have approved Non O's does applying for DTV invalidate them?
We already had tickets for August 9 arrival. Husband applying for DTV. If he hasn't received his DTV by August 9, we use our existing flights and both enter visa exempt.
Once he receives his DTV we'd leave, go to a neighboring country Thai embassy where I'd apply for the DTV as a dependant. When we return to Thailand, he will use his DTV and I will enter on my dependant DTV visa. Are we missing something and over simplifying this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on the implications of applying for a DTV visa while holding an approved Non-O visa. Key points include that if the DTV is approved, it may invalidate the Non-O visa if issued before entry. If received later, the situation becomes more complex. The participants suggest confirming with the consulate for detailed guidance and emphasize the importance of understanding the process of entering Thailand with a DTV, especially concerning exiting without a re-entry permit.
Thanks all, sounds like we are trying to get the best of both without any risk. We'll contact our consulate and get their input on what is the best option.
To the best of my knowledge, the DTV would indeed invalidate the non-O if it's approved before entering. If after, you'd enter a bit of a special situation where you are staying, like we say, "on a visa", but technically that's not the same as "having a visa". A visa is a document valid for entering, once you're in the visa is used. So if my first answer was wrong you could even make it work, applying shortly before the flight. Then for yourself, indeed just leaving without re-entry does the trick (although thinking again if you have one it would just be invalidated but obviously you're not getting one if you want to get the DTV).
Unless I'm greatly mistaken you can't have two valid visas which haven't been used. (other than elite and another visa type but elite is a special situation)
