Sure I am 100% Certain. You can see from the screenshot, I sent 100,000 THB from Wise and SCB credited 100,000 THB to my account on the 16th. SCB leverage no fees or charges just for receiving funds when the funds are in Thai Baht. There is no "conversion rate" because I am sending Thai Baht. If you send in foreign currency you would have to accept SCB's exchange rate and maybe they would charge a fee. I can't be sure because I always send Thai Baht to SCB, over 12 million in the last 6 months and not once ever have I received anything less than sent nor have I been charged any fee. The exchange rate from AUD to THB happens at wise - SCB do not levy any charge just to receive funds.

This is 100% correct & pretty much the only answer worth reading. I was in the process for marriage visa and swapped to DTV due to an offer of remote work from Thailand. If the work offer had not happened I would have stuck with marriage.

While prices have gone up in Thailand, they have gone up more in Australia. One thinks Jim may be confused between cost of living and cost of being a tourist. I'm in Takhian Tia , just outside Pattaya. I pay around $7 dollars per month for water. In Australia $90. Electricity is 10-14 cents per KWH, Australia 32-40 cents + 1.20 per day supply charge. A very nice fully furnished with quality fittings 4 Bedroom house on 850 SQM block $450,000 the lot. Try buying just the land for that in Australia. Case of VB (i wouldn't drink this shite but just choosing the cheapest) $60-$70. Case of Singha, $35-$45. As a high income earner medical includes the medicare levy + private health insurance $12,200 per annum in Australia and there is still a raft of things they will not cover or pay. In Thailand I pay $3,400 per annum for absolute top cover with no out of pocket. Every day we eat lunch out at one of the local restaurants, lunch for two pad Krapow Moo Grob & Pad See Ew would be a typical lunch in Thailand $6. Your not getting a meal for two for $6 anywhere in Australia, even at the cheapest food court Asian your looking at $12 to $15 per dish. Class one car insurance on a 65K car, Thailand $454, Australia $900 and up. A 20KM taxi ride, Thailand $7 and Sydney $55. Mobile phone post paid (60GB Data & 300 mins free talk) Thailand $9 per month, Australia, I would think $30- 40 per month. Now I did not move here because it is cheap, I came for the lifestyle. If you stay in a 5 star resort , eat at fancy restaurants and go out partying every night, it is probably not that cheap anymore however from my experience, what I see everyday the evidence is overwhelmingly clear, the basic costs of living in Thailand is easily 50 to 80% cheaper than Australia.

The DTV was not created by law. Under the existing law the Ministry of Foreign affairs has the right to create and categorise and withdraw visas. There was no "law" to create the DTV or any specific visa. It is not required as the ministry already holds the power. Instead it was created by a ministerial regulation. The DTV is basically a policy under the existing law it is not enshrined in or mentioned in any law. It is not considered a long term immigration type visa but a temporary visitor visa even though longer term and for that reason treated "like a tourist visa". In the ministerial regulation that creates the DTV Order No.
********
I have not been able to find the word "tourist" using several possible Thai variations although there are quite a few words in the documents I can not translate and do not have a searchable version. It does seem however the classification as a tourist visa has more to do with the nature of the visa and is an interpretation rather than any specific wording in the ministerial regulation.

Hi Justin I noticed you said just a couple of years. Something to be aware of if you change your mind or do not like it in Thailand, Australia's Quarantine laws will not allow you to take your dog back to Australia even though it originally came from Australia. For this reason you need to be certain before relocating a pet. As Thailand has rabies if you wanted to go back the dog has to go to a rabies free country for 9-12 months before returning it to Australia. This means boarding long term in somewhere like Singapore for this entire period. It's not good for your pet and will run to tens of thousands of dollars. I am not saying don't do it we relocated three cats but understand they are not coming back.
