Nearly 2 weeks waiting for non O-visa approval in Sydney based on retirement (not marriage).

On arrival to Phuket I’ll try opening a bank account. To open the account, I have a dtac Thai mobile number and I live with my wifes family in their home.

Do I need to get something from dtac proving it’s my mobile number?

…and what would I need to get from my wifes family as evidence I’m living there. Would I ned a certificate of residence from immigration?

Thanks.

My wife and I own a house in Thailand, she is Thai. Can I be added to the family book instead of getting a lease and can this then be used to open a bank account? I believe it is only 400k if married Thanks in Advance.

Hi, in relation to opening a bank account with a Non O visa, is a TM30 sufficient or do you actually require a certificate of residence from immigration for the bank?

I am proposing to retire to Thailand this year and would like advice regarding visas.

I am in the process of arranging medical/ health insurance.

I have rented a house in Bangkok presently in my girlfriend's name but I am providing the rent. The rental agreement can be amended to include my name if necessary for my initial 90 day visa. This will be my address for my 90 day visa. ( see below)

I am planning to apply for a 90 day O visa to travel to Thailand around end of April 2026. Once there I will finalise long term health insurance and find an agent to assist me in obtaining a Long Term Multi Entry visa, including opening an appropriate aThai Bank account

I will not be working in Thailand as I am retiring although I may still take on the odd uk client legal matter remotely.

.

Can members please advise

1. whether the O visa is the correct visa to apply for in the first instance.

2. What is the best type of long term multi entry visa for a retiree with UK income from savings and pension.

Please only respond in relation to your successful personal journeys to retire to Thailand or from actual practical knowledge of current best steps.

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone

We are becoming confused by the order in which we do things before retiring to Thailand from the UK.

Such as getting a bank account before having an address in Thailand.

Which visa should we start with ?

And the rest such as health check and insurance.

Translating legal documents.

If I currently have an initial 90 day Non-O retirement visa and open a bank account to transfer the 800,000 baht…if for some reason I am unable to complete the one year extension. Will the bank account be closed?

We'll be coming over in a few months on Type-O visas. I keep seeing people say you come over, you get a residency certificate from immigration, and you open a bank account. Don't you need a 12-month lease in there between arriving and getting that residency certificate? Can you actually get it with just a hotel address?

Best visa option.

I'm moving to Bangkok in four to six weeks to be with my Girlfriend. We're getting married this year and I've always wanted to move there anyway. Im 57 this year with enough money to be ok for a few years. If I get a non immigrant O visa, I can open a bank account, but if I do an advanced Thai cooking course (which I'm considering anyway), then I can get the 5 year DTV visa. Both seem good options but I can't pick a clear winner. I'll also change to a Marriage visa later too and I'm not sure which visa type will make THAT easier or even possible inside Thailand. Thoughts?
