, usually, you have to return WP to the labour office. You need to discuss the procedure with your employer and labour office well in advance.

@Steve ********
, in general, you should be able to, unless you have some special factors.

and as you want to work 2 more months, your choice might be:

- get the letter from your employer to say cancel only extension (if possible. you need to talk with your employer and the immigration office), then apply for an extension based on marriage

OR

- apply for 1-year extension based on employment again with documents from the employer, then do as I explained in the first comment at the end of your contract.

, depends on your nationality. If your embassy in Thailand would issue an income affidavit, you can use that as proof of funds.

If your embassy wouldn't do it, you have to have a bank account in Thailand with the balance to be able to apply for an in-country Non-O visa.

There seems to be something missing or lost in translation.

Basically, you need to apply for cancellation of your current extension based on employment first, then you can apply for a 1-year extension based on marriage to a Thai. Letting it expire doesn't do a trick.

You sound like tried to skip the first part.

General procedures are:

- You get the termination letter from your employer to go to the labour office that issued your work permit to cancel WP.

- Then go to the immigration office that issued the current extension bringing the WP cancellation receipt to cancel your extension.

- Finally, you can go to the immigration office that serves your address to apply for a new 1-year extension.

, most offices don't have the requirement of funds to be seasoned for an initial in-country Non-O retirement visa. you can use a bank account even one day old. Only Jomtien and one or two offices have seasoning requirements.

you need to check their website. They states the processing time is two working days NOT including application day. If you apply for your visa on Friday, you will get a visa on next Tuesday if no national holidays

Thank you for the report.

This is the summarised version on the LTR website (not detailed like OP's), in case someone needs a piece of information.

@Craig *******
, could be immigration office-specific. Many people changed their reasons for extension from studying to retirement without leaving Thailand.

, if you are already on an extension based on studying, you can apply for an extension based on being over 50 by cancelling that extension without leaving Thailand. As you say, IF you are still on the very first 90 days direct from Non-ED visa, you cannot apply for an extension for a different reason.
