Hi. Can I get some advice. I’m in the UK and applying online for a retirement visa for over 50s. One of the documents they ask for is a Letter of qualification endorsement issued from the Thailand Board of Investment. BOI. Can anyone tell me more about this and how I go about getting it. Also I am travelling to Pattaya initially and staying in a hotel but I will be travelling around the country. Does it matter where you report?

Brand New on the group, so forgive me if the questions have been asked before.

I’m over 50 and looking to retire in Thailand.

I’ve seen that there is a long term residents visa for over 50s (10 years)

Is there agents that can help with these. I contacted one and they said they couldn’t help or do you have to apply for yourself on line.

What is the cost of these types of visas?

Finally, if I went for a standard retirement visa and used an agent, what is the average cost of agents fees?

Hi Everyone. Back in Feb I made a post seeking info one the procedure for doing the one year reporting to immigration required of the Long Term Resident Visa (LTR-P for me) as I was approching my one year mark on 12 May. I was particularly wondering about the Chonburi Immigration aoffice in Jomtien. Since not many people had done that process yet, there as little fdback, but some recommendations on who to contact. I couldnt figure out how to bumpthat post, so this is my follow up.

So I sent an email to both the Chonburi aimmigration Office and the BOI office in Bangkok. Inever got a response from the immigration office, but the BOI replied in just a few days. They attached a 14 page PDF file, mostly all in Thai, that appeared to be instructions to immigration offices on how to handle LTR applications and the one year report. In their email, the BOI pointed out the specific pages that applied to one year report. They also said that the immigration office may or may not "realize they have the authority to handle this" and I should go to the LTR one stop office in Bangkok if they won't process it.

The key forms provided the the pdf were a TM 95, "Notification Form for an Alien staying in the Kingdom lokger than one year (LTR Visa)". The other form was STM 8 "Criteria and Conditions Acknowledgement Form for a temporary stay permit in the Kingdom (LTR Visa)" Both forms had English subtitles for eac line to fill in.

The TM 95 just asked for my passport info, arrival info and my current address. The STM 8 was just a heading of my passport info then listed things not to do like get arrested.

So off I went toChonburi immigration. I brought my passport, TM30, lease, LTR Visa email from Thai embassy in US that approved the visa. Later, when I got to the counter to be helped, the sign said youneeded copy of property owners national ID card. I didnt know this, but luckily it was included as an attachment on my lease.

As to the facility, I didnt make an appointment and arrived at 0845, and the open at 0830. There were many people already there, but hardly packed. I wnetto building B, labeled Information, and walked right up to desk and told them what I was there for. They gave me a ticket that said 10A029 and directed me to building A..they have 3 different counters setup. One labeled "90 day reports; one labeled "Address Notification" and one labeled "residency certificates". My counter was labeled 10, whichis why my ticket started with 10A. Each counterhas its own ticket numbers that operate separately.

I had about 20 numbers ahead of me. It moved at a fair pace, and I was called after waiting 30 minutes. She looked at my documents, asked if this was mycurrent address, and that was prettymuch it. No other paperwork, never signed anything, and was done in10 minutes. She didnt retain any of the forms I completed. What she did do was create a new TM30 slip with todays date, and stapled it to a page in my passport.

So Iwas in and out in less than 1 hour total. Very painless and smooth. They seemed completely aware of the LTR visa and process. No pause to ask a supervisor or anything. Glad I didnt have to go to Bangkok.

That's a way too detailed report but it covers everything I did. Much easier than I expected. No online option is available and the report mustbe done between 15 days prior to arrival daye or within 7 days after.

Retirement visa processing in the USA (NY Thai embassy) versus doing it in Thailand for over 60 that have IRA’s. Pros and cons? It appears that you may not need to deposit $800,000 if your pension account shows adequate retirement income.

I’ve seen references to both a “long term residence” visa and a “long term retirement” visa. Are these the same thing?

Entry stamp classes:

Visa exempt.

Stamp will usually show a stamp ผ.30 but can be handwritten.

On entry you get 30 days and can get one 30 day extension at a local immigration office.

Visa Waiver

Stamp will usually show ผผ.14, ผผ.30 or ผผ.90

On entry you’ll get 14,30 or 90 days depending on nationality. This entry cannot be extended *see extension denial below.

Visa on Arrival

Stamp will usually show TR-15. You’ll know you’ve got this entry as you would have had to pay 2,000 baht for it on arrival.

On arrival you’ll get 15 days. This entry cannot be extended *see extension denial below.

Tourist Visa

Stamp will usually show TR

On arrival you’ll get 60 days and most nationalities can extend once for 30 days at a local immigration office.

If you’re from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria or Uganda you cannot get an extension. *see extension denial below

Non OA or OX

Stamp will show Non OA or OX

You get one or five years on entry.

You’ll know you’ve got this because you will have needed to provide insurance, had a police certificate and a medical to get the visa. Normally only available in your home country or country of legal residence.

You can exit and re-enter as many times as you like on these visas until their expiry date.

Non O or B

Stamp will show Non O or B. Usually these visas are single entry where you’ll get 90 days on entry. Some may be multiple entries valid for one year. You’ll get 90 days on entry.

You can extend these for a year at a time providing you meet the requirements to do so. If not the multiple entry version and you need to leave within the 90 days you’ll need a re-entry permit to keep your current “allowed to stay” date alive.

Non RE

This stamp means that you entered using a re-entry permit. This means that whatever stamp you had prior to entry will determine the time allowed to stay.

PE

Privilege Entry visa. Membership ranges from 5-20 years. On entry you’ll get stamped in for one year at a time, extendable yearly until the life of your membership at a local immigration office.

You’ll know you have this visa as your wallet will be significantly lighter.

LTR

Long Term Resident visa. Pretty new. Haven’t seen many stamps so not completely sure what it’ll say. You're stamped in until the end of your 5 year stamp (not the 10 year stamp) or until the expiration date of your passport.

Extension Denial

If your visa or entry stamp type is not extendable then some offices may allow you to apply for an extension. However this will be denied and you will be given 7 days to leave. Some offices may add on the 7 days to your existing stamp or may date it the from day you apply.

Many offices will require you to have a ticket out of Thailand within the 7 days in order to apply.

You will get a stamp in your passport saying “application for extension denied”. Beware there have been reports that some with this stamp have been refused entry or visas to other countries because of this stamp.

Counting Days

The day you enter Thailand is classed as day 1 regardless of the time you arrive. This means for example that on a Tourist Visa entry you be stamped in for 59 further days. Many people make the mistake thinking that entry day would be day 0 and mistime their onward or return tickets.

What entry stamp will I get?

That depends on your nationality and/or whether you bought a visa prior to arrival. See the infographic in the comments to check yours.

There may be other entry classes that I’ve missed on this list, but they’d be pretty rare as these are the major ones. For example Diplomatic or Government Passports.

We are considering an ED visa to start our relocating to Thailand. I have read that this visa can be renewed for 5 years.

What advise can anyone give for what visa we could possibly use after this without the expensive of an elite visa.

We are both under retirement visa age, but looking to buy property, start a business and stay in Thailand for good.

Please don't flame me for what could be a stipud question haha
