IMMIGRATION OFFICE CLOSURES May 2023

Immigration offices nationwide will be closed on:

**Thursday 4 May: Royal Coronation Day

Friday 5 May: Special Holiday

Wednesday 17 May: Royal Ploughing Ceremony Day**

* Monday 1 May is NOT Government Offices holiday. Immigration offices are open.

Plan accordingly.

* Land borders are open like normal during holidays.

If you have a stamp that is expiring during holidays when the immigration offices are closed and you show up at the immigration office on the very next working day you will NOT be fined for overstay and can get your extension like normal. But you will get an overstay stamp in your passport that says; "overstay xxx days, fine waived due to holiday/closure".

TLDR : Answer Summary
In May 2023, immigration offices across Thailand will be closed on the 4th for Royal Coronation Day, 5th for a special holiday, and the 17th for Royal Ploughing Ceremony Day. However, immigration offices will be open on May 1. Expats whose visa stamps expire during the closure can visit the immigration office on the next working day without incurring a fine, but will receive an overstay stamp noting that the fine is waived due to the holiday.

Work Permit is due for renewal soon. Does anyone know if the May 5th closure affects the Ministry of Labor in IT Square, Lak Si? Thanks.

My current visa exemption (45 days) expires on May 5. Does it mean that, if I go on May 6, I get a 30-day extension from May 6 (so 1 extra day) and the overstay stamp with fine waived?

30 days tourism extension is added to your current stamp. In your case, your extension would be started on 6 May even if when you apply in advance, so NO extra day. Go before the holidays. You are just getting an unnecessary "overstay fine waived due to office closed" stamp for nothing.
