When you first arrive it's important to open a bank account in your name only asap and deposit a minimum 800k baht so it's seasoned as per requirements for application of Non-O based on retirement.

I always produce my passport to the IO with the relevant page open showing my re-entry stamp. They look at it then flick to the front page. Never had any issues so far. Still check though before leaving airport especially.

Do as Todd instructs. If you get caught in overstay by police you can be arrested and deported which isn't the experience you'd want.

Arrived back in Thailand last Thursday with both passports as renewed in Australia. Did a transfer next day (Friday) at Korat immigration. Did the TM30 first. No issues. IO told me when I renew my Extension of Stay to bring both old and new passports with me.

As a side note, is the baby eligible for thai citizenship, if so this may be advantageous having dual citizenship with 2 passports

you can purchase a single entry permit for 1,000 baht or a multi entry for 3,800 baht at the same time you apply for the 1 year extension.

can't really answer that. Maybe when he applied he gave an entry date for Thailand on his application. He actually applied for the E Visa early October.

Thanks Tod. He normally just comes in on the 30 day exempt stamp then extends for another 30 days then maybe a border bounce after that to give himself 90 days in total. He's been doing that for the last 7 years since he's been married as he is still working in Canada for 6 to 9 month a year. He decided this time to apply for the visa as it gives him 90 days continuous stay before he has to leave but wants to get an extension of stay before he goes back in early March, it's all about timing at the moment.
