Dont do overstay especially in Samui, you get caught without visa you will be arrested, deported and probably banned from entering for maybe a year maybe 5 years

Best option would be DTV but that doesnt allow you to work here.

You need a job to get a work permit.

No freelancing as you think is allowed.

Other than that multi entry tourist visa which you can get nearly 9 months out of is an option. For 1 or 2 years you need a long term visa

Yes I lived in Singapore from 1991 till 2000 and still have employment pass there. So have seen it Thrive like a game of Sim city constantly making small tweaks which they can easily do
